Bangalore (officially 'Bengaluru'), the third-most populous city and fifth-most populous urban agglomeration in India, became capital of Mysore State upon India's independence from British colonial rule. And, even after the new state of Karnataka was formed in 1956, Bangalore still continues as the capital city till date.
