| | 4 November 2017HIGHERReviewEditorialWith 789 universities, 37,204 colleges and 11,443 stand-alone institutions, Indian higher education system the second largest in the world has the capability to enrol more than 70 million students. Despite having such huge capacity in the education sector, the number of Indian students going abroad to study is growing at a faster pace than ever before. One of the major reasons that often drive Indian students to pursue their education abroad is our college admission system, which is extremely competitive now. In India, even if a student scores well on the exam, he/she may not get into a prestigious institute, due to the unrealistic admission process that has been carried out by the universities and colleges across the country. Here, the admissions process is not just about short-listing the students according to their grades or the intellectual abilities. The birth or the religious belief of a student can play a vital role in getting a seat of his/her choice. Those who could not get into top colleges are then left only with the options of mediocre colleges where the standard of education is not anywhere near great. Unfortunately, we all have been a part of this vicious circle of reservation without choice. At the same time, it is likely that a student with good grades who was denied admission in an Indian university for various reasons can pursue the subject of his/her choice at reputed universities in the UK, Australia, Canada, Singapore and even the U.S. At present, an estimated 5. 53 lakh Indian students are studying abroad in 86 countries, as per government data. If overseas education is the guiding objective, then it is important for the aspirants to capitalize on a suitable travel abroad programme. To make use of the complete benefits of an international programme, students can approach educational consultants who can help them in reaching the targeted goal. In this issue of the Higher Education Review, we have identified the major Overseas Education Consultants in the country that are performing exceptionally well in the market . We sincerely hope that our efforts will help the large community of students who are dreaming about studying abroad, but oblivious about the right campus to choose. Enjoy Reading.
