Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering or commonly known as ‘GATE’, is a computer-based standardized national level entrance exam, conducted to offer admission into M.Tech, M.Sc and Ph.D. programs across the countries. The qualified candidates will be granted admissions into various IITs, NITs, GFTIs, IISc based on their rankings in the exam. Apart from it, the candidates can get recruited into various PSUs as junior engineers. Conducted by different IITs on a rotational basis, IIT Delhi will be organizing the upcoming GATE 2020. With a vast syllabus to prepare from the different streams of engineering, GATE is often considered as one of the toughest exams to crack. Preset to be held in the month of February 2020, it departs a little time for preparation for the candidates. - Analyze the Syllabus and Exam Pattern: Before starting the preparation, the syllabus and exam pattern of GATE is required to be analyzed. Distributed in different segments as per the branches of the engineering, every stream possesses a distinguished set of the syllabus. A proper scrutiny of the syllabus and exam pattern will give a proper idea of the subjects that are needed to be focused.
- Topic Weightage matters: Every topic in a subject carries different priorities in the exam and based on that marks are awarded to students. Topics such as engineering mathematics, and general aptitude carries the highest priority and 85% of the paper will consist of question-related to the stream chosen by the candidates. By knowing the important topics to focus on, the students can cover a maximum range of syllabus.
- Divide and Conquer: As per the caliber of the student, a chart should be prepared regarding which subjects need more time and which can be covered easily. Subject like DBMS, operating systems and computer networks are comparatively easy and scoring subjects. Starting preparation with these subjects may boost confidence among students by motivating them to complete more subjects.
- Prepare A Schedule: A timetable is a must in student life. Especially preparing for an exam, the timetable not only helps them to stick on to a schedule but also helps in time management.
- Previous year Questions: Going through the previous year’s questions will help the students to understand the subject better by briefing them about the most important topics of the exam. As per the potential of the student he/she can prepare accordingly concentrating on the areas that need improvement and regular practice.
- Attempt mock Tests: Attempting mock tests will not only familiarize the students with exam patterns but will enhance their time management skills. A student will become clear on the concept that how the 65 questions should be solved within the time limit to score the maximum.
