Jalandhar: Following human interests and Corporate Social Responsibility, Lovely Professional University organized Blood Donation camp at its university campus. The camp was organized under university banner- ‘Samarpan -a Lifeline’ in association with Hindustan Welfare Blood Donor Club Phagwara. LPU Students & Staff-members showed great interest in this humane endeavour and donated 965 Blood Units voluntarily to save 2895 lives. Different teams of doctors and paramedical staff members from blood transfusion offices of 3 Civil Hospitals (Jalandhar, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur) & PIMS (Jalandhar) provided all the support for the blood donation activities.
LPU has already been honoured with State Award by 'State Blood Transfusion Council, Punjab Government for recommendable contribution towards Volunteer Blood Donation. Former Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad has also honoured LPU for organizing such camps in the Indian Red- Cross Society event in New Delhi. In fact, LPU has been organizing blood donation camps in association with many voluntary organizations without any rest since its inception. These also include Lions, Rotary and other prestigious clubs and organizations. University has always provided maximum number of voluntary donors for donating maximum number of blood units than targeted. In a way, LPU is on the verge to get its name registered with prestigious record registering bodies.
The blood camp was inaugurated by LPU Pro-Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal along with LPU Director General Er HR Singla. Congratulating blood donors Mrs Mittal said: “I am happy to see an overwhelming response from the volunteer university blood donors. The record-making donation this year has ensured that we have enough blood for patients in our area hospitals in nearby region. We appreciate the generosity of students and staff-members for their participation and support to save lives.” Informing more, Mrs Mittal said: “To inculcate heroism and hero worship among students we have raised a student organization at the campus ‘Samarpan -a Lifeline’. We want that more and more volunteers should come forward as the demand for blood has gone up due to increase in number of accident, cancer, surgery, premature delivery, and plattelets-deficient cases. In fact, every one of us has a golden chance to save three lives by donating one unit (350ml) of blood. “
Camp organizing & donor students Nidhi Nayan (B Tech EEE – MBA), Devinder (B Tech –M Tech IT), Saurav (B Tech), Pulluru Kushal (B Tech Hons- ECE), Utkarsh (B Tech ECE) and others were very happy on the successful and amazing outcome of the camp. Nidhi from LPU School of Fashion Technology said: “It was first time for me to organize as well as donate blood. At first I was a little bit scared, but motivation from “Samarpan” made me to be up to the wonderful humane cause. The great thinking that my one unit of blood will save lives of three needy persons is pleasing me much from within.
