Prime Minister Narendra Modi has established the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Jammu and has initiated several regional development projects. During a meeting, the Prime Minister stated that the number of medical colleges in Jammu and Kashmir has increased from four to twelve in the last ten years. In addition, the number of MBBS seats in the region has more than doubled from 500 to 1,300 during the same period.
The Prime Minister further added that prior to 2014, there were no PG medical seats in Jammu and Kashmir, but now the region boasts 650 PG medical seats. Additionally, 35 nursing and emergency medicine schools will soon be opened in the area, greatly increasing the nursing workforce.
He also mentioned that the Union Government has established 15 new AIIMS in the last ten years, including two in Jammu and Kashmir alone. The establishment of AIIMS Jammu will eliminate the need for residents of Jammu to travel to Delhi for special treatment, saving time and resources. The Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, has assured the Union Government's commitment to AIIMS Jammu, which took only five years to lay the foundation stone.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has noted that in the last five years, significant improvements have been made in the region's health, education, security, and local infrastructure, resulting in a 75% reduction in terrorism, investment growth, and new opportunities.
