Fourth Convocation of Lovely Professional University manifested the commencement of a new chapter of life for 30,878 international, regular and distance education students of the year 2013 & 2014 batches. LPU Convocation also turned out to be momentous for Mauritius and India when the Chief Guest, President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Rajkeswur Purryag was conferred upon honorary doctorate (Honoris Causa) degree of the University. Mr Purryag was conferred honorary doctorate for his ardent working towards advancement of international peace, harmony and in recognition of his wisdom & services for global welfare & brotherhood. Fifth President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Purryag is recipient of several honours of high order including Parvasi Bhartiya Samman Award of India, which he got in recognition of his exceptional contribution to the cause of people of Indian origin.
Shri Kaptan Singh Solanki, Governor Punjab & Haryana and Administrator of UT Chandigarh, presided over the Convocation. S Parkash Singh Badal, Chief Minister Punjab was the Guest of Honour. Lovely Group Chairman Mr Ramesh Mittal, Vice Chairman Mr Naresh Mittal, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal, Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Ramesh Kanwar shared the convocation dais. In addition, renowned public figures, policy makers, experts, educationists, professionals also witnessed the event.
President Purryag bestowed first Doctorate Degrees of the University upon six Ph.D students and awarded gold medals to students for their academic excellence. The students got honours, citations and degrees, included regular 14595 national students, 514 international and 15769 distance education students. Of these 25 students received gold medals and 306 academic-excellence citations.
LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the President of Mauritius for sparing valuable time and accepting University’s invitation. He also thanked President Purryag who made it possible to come all the way from Mauritius to accept the Honorary Doctorate (Honoris Causa) degree of the University. Congratulating the graduating students asked them to follow the hard-working nature of President Purryag who starting his career as an attorney is presently Head of a great nation. Talking about students he shared: “We are proud that LPU students are more than degree holders. Combining the best of diverse fields to which students are exposed at the campus, they are settling across the world as truly innovative and empathetic human beings. They are regularly achieving heights and proving as great ambassadors of LPU.”In his concluding remarks he asked students to give their best and make the nation proud.
President of Mauritius Shri Purryag started his convocation address by praising Punjab, Punjabiyat & its warmth and applauding the role of LPU in redefining education. Expressing his gratitude on receiving honorary doctorate degree of LPU, Mr Purryag exclaimed: “This will remain a memorable day in my life. For me, LPU is probably one of the few universities that has not only grown in terms of size but is also able to successfully set high standards of education coupled with a state-of-the-art infrastructure.” Referring to PM Modi’s Make in India campaign, Mr Purryag said that it will succeed only if Indian industries are competitive and for which youth graduating today will work hard. India is definitely going to be next super economy.” For present day education scenario, Mr Purryag shared: “The Internet, cloud computing, live stream, and comparable technological developments create opportunities and challenges for formal education systems.”
