World Vision India organizes awareness campaign for challenged kids
There are around 12 million children living with disabilities in India and they often face a variety of problem in getting equal access to various facilities, especially education. In order to address these problems, World Vision India in collaboration with many partners across India is observing "Global Action Week for Education" with special focus on inclusive education for children with disabilities. With this primary focus, they recently organized an awareness campaign for children with disabilities in Assam’s Jorhat district. The daylong event was attended by many disabled children and parents.
"Representatives of children with disabilities from 18 states of India had a meeting recently in New Delhi and they have come up with a 15 charter of demands. Through this campaign they want to present this to the government officials in the regional, state and national level to take it up for implementation," said N Renchamo Kithan, Chief Coordinator of Disability, World Vision, NE Region.
Several students of the Bosco institute performed a play to encourage people to give equal treatment and stop discrimination against differently-abled people.
This campaign also provides an opportunity to the children to put forward their concerns and demands in a charter of demands to the various policy makers at different levels. The organization hopes that with equal access to education and better facilities these children will be able to realize their true potential.
