IIT Bombay Launches Two New Flagship Certificate Courses
- IIT Bombay launches hands-on tech certificates.
- Open to students, faculty, professionals; apply by Aug 25.
- Fees: ₹19K–₹72K per course.
To meet India's growing demand for industry-ready tech talent, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has launched two flagship Professional Certificate Programmes - Software Development and Cybersecurity. Both developed by the Trust Lab at IIT Bombay, the programmes are intended for working professionals, students, and faculty across India. The goal is to provide learners with applicable, practical experience in key areas of technology that are in high demand.
The Professional Certificate in Software Development focuses on closing the ongoing talent gap in full-stack programming and cloud deployment. Learners will begin with using base technologies including UNIX, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and progress through more advanced frameworks like PHP, using the MERN stack for building APIS, and working with Django with React. The course will also examine software testing and CI/CD pipelines. The programme will have learners choose individual courses and obtain the professional certificate when three of the courses have been successfully completed within 2 years.

Professional Certificate in Cybersecurity is aligned with India’s rapidly growing cybersecurity market, expected to hit USD 7.23 billion by 2029. It covers essential modules such as Real World Cryptography (starting from August 1, 2025) and Network Security (starting from January 2, 2026), covering the entire spectrum from detection of a threat to defence mechanisms.
Both courses are hosted online using pre-recorded lectures, labs run by a Teaching Assistant, live tutorials held on weekends (immersion on campus is an option).
The applicant must be able to show an engineering or computer science background as a professional or as an undergraduate/postgraduate student in the 3rd/4th year. Cost is based on the type of participant ranging from Rs 19,000 to Rs 72,000. Candidates must register before August 25, 2025, on the IIT Bombay Trust Lab website.
