IIIT Allahabad Opens MTech QIT Admissions 2026

Synopsis: IIIT Allahabad opens admissions for its new MTech in Quantum Information and Technologies for 2026. The programme offers GATE-based fellowships, industry collaborations, and specialised training in quantum computing, communication, and cryptography.
The Indian Institute of Information Technology Allahabad (IIIT Allahabad) has opened admissions for its newly launched two-year MTech programme in Quantum Information and Technologies (QIT), aimed at developing skilled professionals for India’s rapidly growing quantum technology ecosystem. The programme will begin from the July 2026 academic session and is designed as a multidisciplinary course covering advanced areas of quantum science, computing, communication, and cryptography.
The four-semester programme focuses on emerging domains such as Quantum Computing and Simulation, Quantum Information and Communication, Quantum Materials and Devices, Quantum Neural Networks, and Quantum and Post-Quantum Cryptography. The institute states that the course has been developed to create industry-ready professionals capable of contributing to India’s National Quantum Mission and the broader global quantum technology landscape.
Admissions to the programme will be conducted through the Centralized Counselling for MTech Admissions (CCMT) process for candidates possessing valid Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) scores. IIIT Allahabad has announced that GATE-qualified candidates will be eligible for fellowship support, providing financial assistance during the course period. The institute has also indicated that non-GATE candidates may be considered through institute-level spot rounds if seats remain vacant after CCMT counselling.

According to the eligibility criteria, applicants must have completed a four-year BTech, BE, BS, BSc, MCA, MSc, or integrated BS-MS programme with relevant academic qualifications. Candidates from multiple GATE disciplines, including Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, and Data Science, are eligible to apply. The programme offers a total intake of 25 seats.
A major highlight of the programme is its strong academic and industry collaboration network. Students will gain access to training, internships, and research opportunities through partnerships with organisations such as C-DAC Pune, Harish-Chandra Research Institute (HRI) Prayagraj, IISER Pune, and several leading technology companies. Industry partners include IBM, Intel, Bosch, Tech Mahindra, Mphasis, and QNu Labs, providing exposure to practical applications of quantum technologies.
The institute has positioned the programme as a future-focused initiative that combines theoretical foundations with hands-on research and industrial training. As demand for quantum computing professionals continues to rise globally, IIIT Allahabad aims to prepare graduates for careers in advanced research, technology development, cybersecurity, healthcare, finance, and next-generation computing systems.
