  • IIPE offers an online M.Tech in Data Science & ML with weekend classes.
  • Multiple exit options: Certificate, PG Diploma, or M.Tech degree.
  • Fee: ₹5L for Indians; waivers for govt, PSU, MSME, and private firms.

The Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE) in Visakhapatnam has launched a Web-based M.Tech program in Data Science and Machine Learning. The program targets working professionals who aspire to move into roles such as Data Scientist or Data Engineer.

The program consists of essential and optional courses, followed by a thesis project. The overall program requirement consists of 45 credits, with 27 credits allocated for coursework and 18 credits for the thesis. The program may be finished in five to eight terms.

A maximum of three courses can be taken per semester. Classes are arranged beyond standard office hours, including on weekends.

Candidates with a four-year bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree, having at least 55% marks or 5.5 CGPA, are eligible for admission to the program. At least one year of professional experience is needed. Selection will rely on an online written test or an interview. The process of application starts on May 5, 2025, and concludes on June 22, 2025.

The interview and written examination are set for June 30, 2025. Selected candidates will be revealed on July 1, 2025. The entry fee is due by July 6, 2025, and the tuition for the first semester must be paid by August 11, 2025. Classes for the initial semester will begin on August 12, 2025.

The program provides various ways to exit. Individuals who finish the initial two semesters qualify for a Certificate Course. Finishing all nine theory courses will lead to a PG Diploma. Finishing all 45 credits will result in an M.Tech degree.

The curriculum covers diverse subjects, such as mathematical principles of Data Science, optimization, Python coding, statistical methods, and Machine Learning. Electives encompass topics such as Reinforcement Learning, Natural Language Processing, Image Processing, Time Series Analysis, Deep Learning, and Big Data Analytics.

The course is online and allows for self-paced learning, but the final exams must be taken in person. The project work should be conducted at the student’s place of employment, with oversight from an internal mentor from IIPE and, if interested, an external mentor from the organization.

The overall charge for Indian residents is ₹5,00,000, which encompasses a single admission fee of ₹50,000 and ₹30,000 for each course. The overall charge for non-citizens is $11,500. The application charges are ₹1,000 for residents of India and $50 for international applicants.

Fee waivers can be obtained. Candidates sponsored by government departments, PSUs, and defense sectors are eligible for a waiver for a maximum of three courses in their last semester. Candidates nominated from identical sectors qualify for a two-course exemption. MSMEs need to put forth a minimum of three candidates, while private corporations are required to nominate five candidates to be eligible for waivers.
