IIT Madras Opens FACE, SCOPE, OAM for 2026 UG Admissions

- Indian Institute of Technology Madras opens FACE, SCOPE and OAM modes for 2026 undergraduate admissions registration.
- New pathways recognize excellence in arts, Olympiads, and academics beyond traditional entrance exam routes.
- Initiative aims to diversify student intake and promote holistic, talent-based admission process across programs.
The Indian Institute of Technology Madras has opened multiple alternative admission pathways for its undergraduate programmes for the 2026–27 academic session, expanding opportunities beyond the traditional JEE Advanced route. The institute has established three new admission pathways through its FACE and SCOPE and OAM admission modes which now allow students to register for these programs.
IIT Madras has established these new pathways to acknowledge different talents and academic achievements in multiple fields of study. The FACE category is designed for students who have demonstrated exceptional achievements in fine arts and cultural activities, allowing creative talents to gain entry into premier engineering education.
The SCOPE route evaluates students who have achieved excellent results in national and international science Olympiads through assessment of their skills in physics, chemistry, mathematics informatics and biology disciplines.
The BS Mathematics programme now has an admission route which uses the Olympiad Admission Mode (OAM) as its entrance method for students. This pathway enables students with strong Olympiad credentials to secure admission without relying solely on competitive entrance exam scores.

The two admission methods demonstrate a change which introduces a more inclusive admission system that assesses both academic performance and non-academic achievements.
The institute has released a detailed information brochure which describes the eligibility requirements and application process and seat allocation system for these admission routes. Candidates must use the online portals which exist for each admission method to submit their applications instead of using the standard Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) system that handles JEE Advanced admissions.
The institute shows its dedication to achieving student diversity through this initiative while supporting the development of students with multiple abilities.
The institute intends to create a more diverse academic environment by expanding its admission procedures to attract students who possess different strengths. The practice follows worldwide higher education trends because universities now give more importance to complete student assessments instead of using only one examination result.
