Our Lady Of Fatima University: Strengthening Education Through Industry Partnerships And Global Linkages

By Dr Rodehlia Macaspac, Assistant Dean

Developing successful entrepreneurs requires more than theoretical knowledge; it demands a combination of global exposure, real-world experience, and industry-relevant skills. For colleges offering entrepreneurship programs, blending global accreditations, industry-driven curriculum, experiential learning, and international linkages is crucial to shaping innovative leaders who can build sustainable ventures and generate employment.

This integrated approach empowers students to think beyond borders and drive meaningful change. Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU) exemplifies this philosophy, standing out as a pioneer in entrepreneurship education.

Founded in 1967 along MacArthur Highway in Valenzuela City, Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU) began as a small medical center and nursing college with a vision to provide quality healthcare education. From these modest beginnings, the institution steadily grew into one of the most respected private universities in the Philippines. Its elevation to University Status in 2002 marked a major milestone, opening the doors for expansion into multiple disciplines beyond health sciences.

Today, the University operates six campuses and offers more than 50 academic programs across undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate levels. With a vibrant student population of over 60,000, the University continues to uphold its mission and emphasize a holistic and values-driven approach to education.

OLFU’s strong commitment to academic excellence has been recognized both nationally and globally. In the Philippines, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has granted Autonomous Status to three of its campuses, Valenzuela City, Quezon City, and Antipolo City, an honor held by only about 77 institutions out of more than 2,000 nationwide.

On the global stage, this University has been ranked 121st in the World University Rankings for Innovation, reflecting its focus on forward-looking pedagogy and research.

The University has also achieved a four-star rating from QS Stars and earned the prestigious Philippine Quality Award (PQA), the country’s highest recognition for organizational excellence, quality management, and productivity.

Complementing these achievements is OLFU’s extensive international reach, with over 50 active partnerships with universities and organizations worldwide. These collaborations encompass faculty and student mobility programs, research exchanges, joint conferences, curriculum development initiatives, and benchmarking visits.

Such global linkages provide students and educators with invaluable international exposure, preparing them to thrive in a highly interconnected world.

Distinctive Entrepreneurship Education

Entrepreneurship has emerged as a cornerstone of modern education, and OLFU has firmly positioned itself as a leader in this transformation. What sets this University apart is its holistic approach, combining experiential learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, strong industry linkages, and globally benchmarked curriculum design.

Students are not confined to theory; they create real business plans, conduct market research, and even launch ventures, culminating in feasibility studies, capstone projects, or research papers that provide them with job-ready, hands-on experience.

With more than 50 programs spanning disciplines such as IT, engineering, maritime studies, psychology, medicine, dentistry, and other health sciences, OLFU fosters collaboration that mirrors the multidisciplinary nature of business.

Its Academic Industry Linkage and Partnership (AILP) program provides mentorship, while initiatives like the Entrep Corner with Robinsons Mall and events such as SPARKS (Synergizing Partnerships in Advancing Research, Knowledge, and Service) and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions) connect students directly with industry.

“Globally accredited by the International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE), our University's curriculum evolves with labor trends and market data. Our pedagogical innovations include debates, gamification, case studies, and simulations, supported by technology like the Multiple Applications for Reality-Virtuality Experiences Laboratory (MARVEL) and the Canvas LMS, ensuring future-ready entrepreneurial leaders”, says Dr Rodehlia Macaspac, Assistant Dean (Graduate School) & Manager (Center for Professional Development & Academic Partnership), OLFU.

Faculty Development & Industry Linkages

To stay aligned with industry demands, OLFU places strong emphasis on faculty development and research innovation. The University Faculty Development Committee (UFDC) organizes continuous professional training, while financial and administrative support motivate faculty members to publish research and pursue higher studies. Faculty are also immersed in industry environments, ensuring that what is taught in classrooms reflects current business realities and future workforce needs.

Industry partnerships are deeply embedded through the Academic Industry Linkage & Partnership (AILP) program, which brings in advisory boards of seasoned business leaders, guest speakers, visiting professors, and hands-on workshops. Students also benefit from internships, joint R&D collaborations, and the Supervised Work Experience Program (SWEP), which offers real-world training in leading companies.

Many OLFU graduates have successfully launched businesses in sectors such as renewable energy, hospitality, food, tourism, and e-Commerce, a testament to the program’s practical impact.

Equally, OLFU prioritizes accessibility by offering diverse scholarships and financial aid, while career guidance, employability training, and digital skill development prepare students as resilient, future-ready professionals equipped to thrive in competitive global markets.

Looking ahead, OLFU’s roadmap focuses on personalized, experiential, and data-driven learning, alongside immersive technologies and skills-based education. From AI-powered personalized content delivery to advanced simulation labs and hybrid learning environments, the University is committed to continuous innovation.

Two years before its 60th founding anniversary in 2027, OLFU has evolved from a modest medical center into a powerhouse of holistic, industry-relevant, and globally recognized education. As it forges ahead, the University remains steadfast in its mission to shape future-ready leaders who can thrive in dynamic industries while making meaningful contributions to society.
