A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination and instil a love for learning. Therefore, a teacher is considered as the guiding light of a student's life, navigating individuals in every challenge they face to make them competent enough to live in the real world.
Established by Chembur Education Society in 1970, Chembur Sarvankash Shikshan Shastra Mahavidyalaya (CSSM) has been on a mission to produce teachers with a high purpose and Intense Pragmatism who will be the change agents in future. While teacher training is the most important essence they carry, the B.Ed program of the institute takes the lead among all the other Programs. B.Ed is offered in English and Marathi medium and retains the same value for teachers training.
After a considerable change from a one-year program to a two-year program, B.Ed program in CSSM accommodates 50 students in each batch from 100. This change in the duration and intake has not dampened the demand of students for admissions in the recent past. The institute has introduced innovative method in the B.Ed program, such as concept formation, brain mapping, mind mapping, collaborative and co-operative learning approaches and Rubric method for evaluation. Language lab for vernacular medium students is intended to overcome their difficulty of communication in English and a new curriculum lab for disseminating curriculum and instructional information. Curriculum flexibility is offered in terms of individual need of student, valuing diversity and differentiation and providing scope for individual creativity. "We promise a good quality education by organizing workshops, Seminars, Orientation Programmes, and through thorough feedback from students. Our innovative ideas intertwined with continuous learning promote continuous improvement, successful profession and quality of life, and we focus on high level of performance of our students," says Dr. V.D. The college is offering Semester and Choice based Credit System B.Ed. Programme. The two-year program divided into four semesters consists of four internship programs, each having a different importance in the training methodology. Critical analysis of lesson observations, Shadowing of subject teacher in the school subject, Observation of lessons of peers and school activities, theme based lessons, maintaining Reflective Journal ,all are integral part of internship programs of the semesters .The programs is in consonance with the main objectives of the institute and also it reflect global trend in education.
CSSM has conducted orientation programs on ICT, Science and Knowledge & Curriculum courses for Teacher Educators of B.Ed. colleges affiliated to University of Mumbai.
Research Centre of the institute has graduated 29 research scholars so far since 1988, which are awarded by University of Mumbai. In recent past, CSSM had organized Scientist Students Interaction Program in collaboration with BARC (Bhabha Atomic Research Centre) and has established a cordial relationship with its stakeholders, schools, colleges offering Education as core subject, University of Mumbai, Department of Education, IDOL, DLLE, Community centers, NGOs. Parents, alumni and academic peers are bonded in a bigger group for student's communication and socialization, which helps them for placement.
The faculty members participate in curriculum development program and participate in Seminars, Conferences, Workshops and Short Term training Course. Currently, 17 faculty members, both in Self-financing and Grant in aid section, looks after the B.Ed programs. Each of them carries experience and expertise with excellent academic records. Teachers communicate effectively with students involving and adopting new innovative methods of teaching.
The institute has a Career & Counselling Cell under UGC XII Plan, which aims at maintaining Socio-Economic Profile of students. Counsellor maintains individual file of students which consists of analysis of various Personality Tests like16 personality tests, EQ and NVT test. The college has a record of maintaining 70 percent placements record in various reputed schools of Mumbai and the college has maintained all the databases of every student since its inception.
In the preparation of the Perspective Plan, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the institute has taken several initiatives with inputs from all the stakeholders and will introduce a number of certificate courses in the near future. As the institution has been awarded 'A' Grade by NAAC for two consecutive times, now seek to acquire an autonomous status. CSSM is also planning to launch Solar Energy Project for their campus. The value of the institute's contribution towards the society on people who are poor, ignorant and downtrodden has emphasized through education. As people of this section are the one who form the major part of the society, what drives the spirit of CSS Mahavidyalaya is 'A soul should enlighten another soul. A teacher is a lifelong learner.'
