About the University:
In 1996, Desh Bhagat Group of Institutes was established in Mandi Gobindgarh, a well-known industrial town of Punjab. The Group which has built its campus in a pollution free environment was able to become a University in 2012 and thus, Desh Bhagat University was born.
Programs Offered:
The University is home to more than 8,000 students, studying in a range of technical and non-technical courses in domains such as Engineering, Management, Arts, Sciences, Humanities, Law, Hotel Management, Ayurveda, Medical Sciences and others.
Research and Entrepreneurship:
With a motto such as Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the University promotes students and faculty members to pursue their interests in these domains. The university utilizes its testing labs, survey labs and other facilities to help various organizations complete their research work. An example of their published research work is the Survey on Pollution in their area which explains the causes, the challenges, the solutions and other. The University also does research in the areas of women empowerment, socio-economical activities and other non-technical domains. Various organizations such as AICTE, ICCR and others provide the University with a range of projects which benefit the students and faculty members to get a better understanding into the world of research.
Students and faculty members are able to pursue their interests in research by utilizing the tie-ups that the University has with Microsoft Innovation Center, IBM research labs and others.
While there are quite a number of students at Desh Bhagat University who pursue research activities, there are also a number of them who have or hope to become Entrepreneurs. The University encourages entrepreneurship and holds various workshops and seminars. The University also guides its students on how to start their very own venture and how to acquire the funds for the same. The University has held workshops with IIM-A to inspire creativity and entrepreneurship among its students which has garnered positive results. Students from Media, Hotel Management, Business Management, Fashion and Engineering are primarily the ones who pursue entrepreneurship. Some of the ventures the students have started are e-Commerce websites, Mobile App Development, Bakeries, Restaurants, Boutiques and others.
Academic Resources:
Desh Bhagat University has ensured to build state of the art infrastructure so that each of their departments which may technical or non-technical can pursue their research projects. Some examples of the infrastructure they have built for research are labs for food processing lab, a nanotechnology lab and others.
A Digital Central Library has been created by the University which connects all the Libraries of the various institutions under them. They have over 1 lakh books and journals in these libraries which students can access at anytime and anywhere on campus including hostels. They also have subscribed to a wide range of national and international databases which help the students pursue their interests.
Faculty:
Desh Bhagat University has employed more than 500 faculty members. Some of the faculty members are from prestigious institutions such as IITs, IIMs, NITs and others. In order to continuously improve the faculty members, the university has signed MoUs with companies such as IBM, TCS and others to organize faculty development programs. The University encourages its faculty members to keep improving their knowledge by gaining more number of qualifications. With this gained knowledge the faculty members are able to teach the subjects to the students more practically. The faculty members are also encouraged to attend national and international seminars, conferences and workshops which will keep enhancing their knowledge. Guest Lecturers form national institutions such as IITs, IIMs, BITS Pilani and others and International Institutions allow students to gain a more knowledge and skills on a global level.
Placement Details:
Over 70 percent placements have been achieved by Desh Bhagat University this year. Most students are able to get placed in organizations such as Wipro, TCS, IBM, ICICI, HDFC, Hewlett Packard, Radisson, The Lalit and others. The organizations understand the amount of hard work and time the University takes in ensuring that its students are the best and therefore, keep coming year after year to recruit students. While most of the students go for placements, about 20 percent of the students go ahead to pursue their higher studies in India or Abroad and the remaining 10 percent become entrepreneurs or researchers.
Roadmap:
Desh Bhagat University hopes to start a range of market driven courses. The University is also hoping to increase its research activities further. They also hope to strengthen some of the courses which have not been able to gain traction by making them more industry relevant.
Dr. ZoraSingh, Chancellor:
A doctor by profession, Dr. Zora Singh, the Chancellor of the University has a dynamic personality and is a visionary par-excellence. As an educationist, he founded DeshBhagat Group of Institutes which has been elevated to the status of a university by the Punjab Government while outlining his priorities, he said that his aim is to make the university a 'World Class University' and ensure that along with quality education, the students are also provided value education and they shine in every field of life.
Dr. Shalini Gupta, Pro-Vice Chancellor:
She is currently the Pro- Vice Chancellor of DeshBhagat University. She completed her PhD in Women Empowerment. She believes that Universities must first ensure to adopt ethical practices and encourage their students and faculty members to keep pushing themselves to gain excellence in their field.
