Not many institutions in the country can match up to the western standards however, BMS College of Engineering has raised the bar of their pedagogy to match the industry standards and stand on equal footing with the west. Having attained autonomy in 2009 for undergraduate programs, the institute relentlessly strives to produce capable and zealous engineers that will take the IT sector by storm.

"Accredited as a tier one institution, BMS College of Engineering is providing undergraduate programs that facilitate international mobility to its students to 17 countries," says Dr Mallikharjuna Babu K, Principal, BMS College of Engineering. The institution's vision is to set high standards that will enable them to provide quality technical education and training. Regardless of where the institute's students are on the globe, the quality of education they receive from the institution enables them to stand out from the crowd.

The institution has its influence amplified via a wide array of partnerships to enhance productivity of its students of the highest regard. BMS is a data-partner of many organizations and has MOUs with various enterprises where students are encouraged to visit the industry in order to attain internships, gain valuable exposure and witness the functioning of the industry as an organization. "It is an ongoing process and top notch support is provided for research and exposure of the industry to the multi-faceted students at BMS," says Dr Babu. The Faculty at BMS College is also encouraged to visit the industry and provide guidance in correlation to the needs of the industry.

Research at BMS College of Engineering is offered across a wide spread of domains. The institution currently has 22 ongoing projects in the campus for research. BMS College of Engineering has its own research centers that support the projects. The faculty along with the students conduct research on numerous projects of industry relevance. There is a presence of officials who are related with the industry in research centers that help the institute establish a parallel running update as per the industry. The institution has developed five innovation labs spread across aerospace, automation and 3D printing to help push students forward in their research. The labs are not restricted to students of a single stream. There is a forum for learning across streams and courses.

BMS College of Engineering has certain projects under construction, like sustainable irrigation in agriculture, solar powered projects and others. The institute has developed prototypes for innovative projects on the same lines.

The institute also invites experts from the industry and alumni members that are working in the industry to provide an insight into the intricate workings of the industry. They hand-hold students and provide exposure on current technology and trends, clarify doubts, share their experiences in the work environment and most importantly dismiss myths about the workplace.

BMS College of Engineering has a curriculum that is primarily focused on Outcome Based Education. The entire design of the curriculum is based on outcome perspectives of the course. The curriculum has attained innovation for the ongoing academic year of 2014-2015. 'Biology for Engineers'is a unique concept that was recently launched in the curriculum along with 'traditional workshops' and 'co-engineering labs' that are a part of the curriculum up-gradation. "The entire curriculum is periodically revamped and each course has over eight reference books which is another new concept," adds Dr Babu.

The institute specializes in entrepreneurship and its alumni students have over eight established companies. Project based learning (PBL) is a foolproof method of learning along with entrepreneurial guidance that is imbibed at BMS College of Engineering that refurbishes students' entrepreneurial skills.

By providing the right kind of exposure of the industry, Placements at BMS College of Engineering is at the highest order in the campus. "Placements at BMS are market driven and also by different approaches," says Dr Babu. In the state of Karnataka at undergraduate and postgraduate level, the institute has secured high number of placements across various MNC's and firms. Placements are a guaranteed aspect at the institution. BMS College of Engineering does not choose a career path for its students. It guides them in the right direction that empowers students from all walks of life to become successful in a specialization of their choosing.

Dr Mallikharjuna Babu K

He is the principal of BMS College of Engineering. Dr Mallikharjuna has supervised four candidates for PhD degree and one candidate for M.Sc. He has published 47 Technical Papers in referred journals and is the author of six books in Industrial Engineering /Mechanical Engineering.
