Employability Enhancement: Sreenidhi Institute of Science and Technology

In this technology filled era almost every second professional has an engineering degree. However, only a selected handful of them are employed. Graduates that are fresh out of college with a degree in hand, have a belief that entering the industry is like running a hot knife through butter. But, reality has a tough lesson to teach. Recruiters look to hire students who are skilled enough to walk into an enterprise and start working on problems. People with skills are given first preference over people with degrees. A vast majority of the graduates today do not pass out industry ready and end up not being employed. Focusing on this aspect, educational institutions should look to produce more job ready students. Colleges should not only teach but also train students to learn to tackle with the challenges industries face. One among the colleges which are taking the challenge upon themselves to alter the process of education is, Sreenidhi Institute of Science and Technology. Located in one of the most beautiful cities in India, Hyderabad, SNIST was established in 1997. With a vision to transform students into highly competent job ready engineers, the college inculcates in them a sense of responsibility towards society at large. Sensitizing them towards moral and ethical values to make them responsible citizens, the college transforms its students into leaders in their chosen profession. "Today we are globally successful, our college has collaboration with Vaughn College of Aeronautics & Technology, USA, while enjoying MOUs with 14 major Universities around the world too," says Dr. P. Narasimha Reddy, Executive Director, SNIST.

Ever since its establishment the college has churned out job ready graduates that are ready to step into the industry and make a difference. This repeated feat, for the past 17 years, is the fruit of the vision and perseverance of the dynamic management and dedicated faculty of the college since day one. "The college dedicatedly works on identifying and developing, individuals who can specialize in certain fields. Then, we arrange Campus Recruitment Training programs for students in association with the companies concerned. This process enables us to produce better quality engineers," reveals Dr.Reddy. Focusing highly on theoretical instructions, practical classes followed by CRT training, the college designs its own dynamic curriculum based on skills in demand analysis conducted on a regular basis. The flexibility of changing the syllabus because of its autonomous status college is able to impart up-to-date knowledge to the students.

The curriculum is changed to suit every requirement so that students can enter the world of work from the world of study, fully transformed to integrate in the industry with the least amount of time for induction. This is where the college starts to equip the students with all its resources and starts training them with a syllabus properly balanced with Theory and Practicals of industrial relevance. To ensure that students get the best of both worlds, the college mixes its regular academic curriculum with industry practices. Having recently added some contemporary subjects, the institution now aims at improving the employability of students aiming at 100% placements. Imparting a wholesome technical education for a balanced growth of students, the college is now the only institution in the Telangana Region to receive World Bank Assistance under TEQIP - Phase I and II. Guiding students to be intellectually strong, physically robust and socially responsible is the first priority of the institution. With a unique syllabus and a practical curriculum, this institution is shaping young minds to work for the betterment of tomorrow.

Faculty is the backbone of every institution, regardless of the stream. The faculty ensures that every aspect of a student's development is sufficiently met. The college ensures that the very best is provided to students to help them in their respective course of study. Faculty members at this institution are made to undergo micro teaching programs on campus to broaden their teaching effectiveness. To wider the horizon, faculty members also take internships at various industries, that have affiliations to the institute. These programs and internships enable them to teach students on a more practical note, showing them how to implement the concepts rather than providing a presentation or a lecture on the same. Meetings between faculty and industries are also often conducted to keep the faculty members fully informed in practical aspects of engineering and to get an idea about specific changes that are to be made in the curriculum. These interactions have greatly helped the institution to impart engineering education more effectively. A sense of ownership was built in the minds of Industry experts and they have been helping in making the curriculum dynamic which can respond to the needs of industry.

With a different approach to engineering, the college was able to attract the organizations such as Microsoft, Oracle, Infosys, Cognizant, Wipro, Amazon, Accenture, Delloite, Hyundai, Reliance, Dell International Services and a host of other reputed companies for Campus Placements.

Mixing their traditional roots to the modern day industrial needs, the college enables the students to become high quality engineers who are industry ready. With a clear vision and a strong mission to continuously improve its methodologies to develop better quality engineering graduates, the college may just be shaping the whole dynamics of instilling the noesis in engineering.
