In terms of education, Chennai, "The Gateway of South India," holds a rich tradition. After the establishment of the University of Madras the mid-19th century, Chennai has been attracting students from all over India. Reflecting the urgency among the people to get on with the task of addressing the scourge of illiteracy, however, the real impetus for education came in a second wave, after Independence, when a number of educational institutions were established. Began in the mid-1980s, the third wave of growth in the field of education in the city was characterized by commercialization. There has been a proliferation of a variety of educational institutions since then. Riding on the back of a liberal regime, Chennai has emerged as a leading player in the education sector.

Therefore, Marina, the second longest beaches of the world that covers a distance of about 13 km along the eastern coastline of India, is a swathe between ocean and opportunities.
