Manipal Education Group is one of the most prestigious groups of higher education institutions in the country, on account of its excellent leadership and a clear focus in all its endeavors. With a firm grip on higher education, Manipal University Jaipur (MUJ) took another leap in 2012 by establishing the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Within a span of four years, the School of Journalism and Mass Communication has attracted a number of students from all over the country.
The department started with a three year Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication program with a curriculum that focuses on media education and covers journalism (print, radio, television and new media), film studies, public relations, advertising, and media law. "We provide an excellent infrastructure, a holistic curriculum, experienced faculty, an effective placement process and lively co-curricular activities such as theatre, dance, music, cinema, literature, debate, nature, painting and many more," says Prof. Ravi Chaturvedi, Director, School of Media and Communication, MUJ. Apart from B.A (J&MC), Master in Journalism and Mass Communication M.A (J&MC) and doctoral programs are also offered from 2016.
The institute offers a unique integrated program in media studies combined with the right blend of computer application skills as well as a firm background in social, behavioral and policy sciences. "The undergraduate program has been specifically designed to meet the requirements of the media industry," adds Prof. Chaturvedi. The school believes in continuous development in terms of academic as well as practical activities, unifying theory with hands on lab experience and enabling an all-inclusive development for the students. It looks forward to nurture young talents who will prove beneficial for the cause of social welfare, freedom of speech, thus contributing and empowering the democratic scenario of the nation.
Purnima Singh, alumni of MUJ says, "MUJ provides a competitive environment, dedicated faculty and hands on practical experience." Likewise, almost all the students who have received their education in this reputed institute have expressed satisfactory testimonials about their training in the campus. The reason being, the department has a group of faculty who are both qualified and experienced. Out of 15 members, each one of them have a doctoral degree and practice both fundamental journalism and radical or interdisciplinary strategies of communication. "The faculty members are recruited not only for academic and research excellence in their interested domain of expertise but also for their personal contribution to societal institutions as founder, developer, or explorer, showcasing a tremendous amount of motivation for students," states Prof. Chaturvedi. With an intake of 120 students for B.A(J&MC) and 20 for M.A (J&MC), the department focuses on every individual students according to their understanding and level of perception.
One of the biggest attractions of School of Media and Communication is the focus on core research. "So far eleven research scholars are registered with the School. These budding researchers are pursuing research on various aspects of mass media and its direct impact concerning society and nation," adds Prof. Chaturvedi. The Doctoral research program in Communication, Media and their allied fields fosters innovative interdisciplinary approaches to culture, heritage, development, law, cinema, performing arts, literature and computational studies. "These make the department reach the height where knowledge of information and knowledge are celebrated as epistemic diversity beyond time, space and personal eccentricities," opines Prof. Chaturvedi.
Keeping in mind the industrial needs, the School commits to train the learners how to develop various skills such as interaction skills, observational skills, management skills, critical thinking, interpersonal, expository, information retrieving skills and many more through on and off academic training and co-curricular activities. The internship in final semester and Student-Media/Film Industry meet in the forms of conclave, workshop, media fest, film fest, colloquium and personality interaction session organized at national and international level in the School give opportunity to the students make up their mind engaged for self-placement skills. Organizations such as Concentrix, The Desert Trail, Nirvana Films, Radio Mirchi, Times of India, Hindustan Times, Statesman, Cox and King, Ogilvy and Mather have been regular recruiters of School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
"The mission of communication is to develop a concept of 'well-informed global society' through active participation, in any capacity, to mediate between the public knowledge of policies for human society and the creators or moderators of the policies," concludes Prof. Chaturvedi.

A PhD in Critical Study of Dramatic Elements in the works of Painters and Sculptors of 20th Century, Prof. Chaturvedi holds a number of academic qualifications and experience. He has been a faculty member of University of Rajasthan, Chung-Ang University, Seoul, Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University and Central University of Rajasthan in his experiences. Under his able hands the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Manipal University, Jaipur has seen many developments by leaps and bounds within a short span of time.
