Manipal Group of Institutions are well known for delivering high quality professional education in the country as well as outside India and lays great emphasis on excellence in higher education. The group has also focused on delivering many such programs through joint association with industries and professional institutions working in domains of mutual interests. Amongst its alumnus it has a number of prominent names such as Mr. Satya Nadella, Mr. Rajiv Suri and Mr. Vikas Khanna, the group is renowned for enriching sons of the soil.

Manipal Grouphas established a new Multi-Faculty University in Jaipur under the State Actin the year 2011 and expects Manipal University Jaipur (MUJ) to be an important knowledge hub in the region. MUJ is committed to carry forward the legacy of the Group Institutions in providing value education to our students.

MUJ though in its formative years, has already become the foremost choice for students in the pink city as well as in the Northern India. “As Jaipur is popular for having educational institutes offering professional courses such as Engineering, Management and Law; we provide a large spectrum of subjects intending to bring a holistic educational choice for our students here” boasts Dr. Sandeep Sancheti, President, Manipal University, Jaipur. The university shines increasingly as we take a closer look at the various events taking place inside the campus along with the academic and research activities.

“Though external research projects aren’t generally funded to new educational institutions not having accreditation (as institutions become eligible only after graduation of at least two batches), the university has already undertaken more than 30 research projects through international agencies and seed money grants,” shares Dr. Sancheti. What is more important is that some of these projects are on various significant topics and are funded by the DBP, DST, MCIT and the University. Projects from international agencies of Japan and USA have already proven to be instrumental to provide impetus to research at the university as a whole. To serve great benefit to these projects special centers of excellence were set up to improve research potential and hone skills of both the faculty members and the students. These are: Centre of Excellence for Built Environment; Centre of Excellence for Nano-Technology; Super-Computing Facility with teraflops super computer - PARAM SHAVAK; Semi-Conductor Fabrication Lab and creation of Education Enhancement Centre for supporting professional & outreach activities.

Incorporating research projects has mainly been responsible for the students taking interest in increasing their knowledge quotient and applying the same to variety of projects. As a result, the university has made it integral with classroom learning and this in turn has initiated several interesting modes of learning including self-learning, MOOC based learning and skill developing. Dr. Sancheti shares the profound use of open book examination system introduced recently compared to traditional form of examination. He explains, “Organizations demand team work and open book is a prominent way of doing research and solving organizational challenges collectively; we intend to deliver the same to our students so that they have added advantage than rest while undertaking jobs and relevant assignments.”

To have such ideas put into practice, the President points out the unparalleled contribution of the faculty members in doing so. The University has 340 faculty members with faculty-student ratio of better than 1:15. MUJ owns one of the best groups of faculty in the region and has around 50 percent faculty with doctoral qualifications and another 20 percent are actively pursuing it. Their expertise and experience varies from various industry professionals from top notch organizations to those from academic institutes of national repute.Educating 5000 students currently, every faculty member focuses on student-centric learning along with their active guidance.

The university has been able to establish very important collaborations with efforts of the faculty members as well as on its own. MUJ has international collaborations with Lancaster University, UK; Universal College of Learning, New Zealand; University of Applied Sciences, Switzerland; California State University, USA; Florida International University, USA and more than two dozen institutions and industries all over the globe. Work and associations with UN based agencies, NSDC, Hotel Clarks Amer, JCB, Siemens, Bosch, Intel, Microsoft, Texas Instruments and many more have been instrumental to have fruitful results in adding professionalism to students through various events and projects undertaken. These collaborations have also been profitable mainly involving internships, consultancy research activities and gaining professional exposure.

It is to be noted that the University has also established an E-Cell with a group of 500 students in a span of less than four years with a view to promote entrepreneurship, organizing lectures & seminars and exciting young minds with “Startup India – Standup India”. Manipal University Technology Business Incubator (MUTBI) incubates new business ideas by their students until ready to be launched in the market. The promoters of Manipal group have established a special endowment of Rs.20 crores for promoting faculty development, research capabilities and entrepreneurial ventures etc.

Various activities from research, teaching, learning methodology and every inch of change in education system in this university lead to the final goal of student i.e. placements. The placement drive during the year 2014-15 witnessed 75 percent placements for engineering courses and 95 percent for non-engineering with over 65 organizations. Current year’s placements are in process and it is heartening to note that an average salary of more than Rs. 5 lakhs per annum is being offered to the students of engineering streams. The numbers might vary and improve year after year but what the university truly believes is to make a mark of its own through sustained and new generation efforts.

“We follow our vision of being a university of innovative and inter-disciplinary learning,” says Dr. Sancheti. He also adds that in future MUJ will broaden its horizon and foster excellence in all the areas of higher education and human development with a mandate to transform young minds with professional competence and good human values.
