Cervical cancer is the most common type of cancer and an estimate of nearly 142,000 cases come to light every year out of which almost 77,000 lose themselves to death. Working to find a solution to this problem is not the experts from the medical field, but engineering students of the MS Engineering College. The students have started a research project on developing an instrument, which can detect cancer in the early stages. "Today, cancer is becoming one of the main reasons behind the early deaths. Even though the early detection can prevent many from death, it is the heavy cost and difficulty in the access to such medical devices which is increasing the death rates," says Dr. Badarinarayan, Principal, MS Engineering College. The students of the MS Engineering College are into a study wherein they are trying to propose, design, model and develop polymer-based biosensor models that can detect prostate cancer and cervical cancer based on urine samples.
For MS Engineering College student, research is part of daily academic life. Another research project of the institute revolves around a strategy wherein the students are trying to analyze the productivity among the workers. "The working capacity of the employees completely depends on the moods of the employees and our students are developing a device, which can be used to understand the emotions of human beings," opines Dr. Badarinarayan. The study also tries to prove that happiness will increase productivity.

The institute works with four centers of excellence, wherein different projects are undertaken and it is the right path of motivation extended by the faculties, which is helping the students to think out-of-the-box. "Almost all the students of our institute are striving hard to make effective contributions towards society. We start exploring the research skills of our students through internships and the project works," adds Dr. Badarinarayan.
In addition to the support from the faculties, students are also motivated to work on their creativity, as the institute is fully equipped with world-class facilities. The comprehensive facilities that are spread across several capacious blocks are all provided with the state-of-the-art equipment. "The R&D center encourages all the undergraduate and postgraduate students, research scholars and faculties, to pursue research in their area of interest. Our management supports research with the required infrastructure along with the research grants," says Dr. Badarinarayan. The R&D center also helps the students in understanding and refining their interests. After recognizing their areas of interests and skills, a continuous emphasis is laid on immersing these skills in academic research.
Along with research, the institute also caters to the entrepreneurial aspirations of the students. "The innovation and the entrepreneurship development cell, which has been already setup is in further stages of progress. In the coming years, we would like to encourage our budding entrepreneurs through awareness camps and skill development programs," adds Dr. Badarinarayan. The college is also maintaining a good network with the investors and capitalists so that the entrepreneurial skills of the students get their wings at the right time to expand and fulfill their dreams. "With the journey through the research path, we are in a move to create an environment of experiential learning on the engineering concepts. By the time the students move out of the college, we make them capable of solving the real-life problems, to bring about the betterment of the society," concludes Dr. Badarinarayan.
