NITTE Meenakshi Institute of Technology: Mesmerizing the World of Management Education
Everything in our life happens for a reason. Chetana Jerome also had a reason to travel from Mysore to Bangalore. She wanted a prolific corporate career by acquiring the MBA degree – now an ordinary dream of many undergraduate students in India. However, entry to an international e-commerce giant like Amazon to begin her career was not in the heap of her fantasies. Chetana is now an employee of Resource Centre at Amazon India Development centre and it was the MBA program of NITTE Meenakshi Institute of Technology, which helped in transforming her ordinary life into an extra-ordinary one.
Located in Bangalore, Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology (NMIT) is an Autonomous Institution affiliated to the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), with the approval of UGC and Accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC-UGC). The MBA programs of NMIT started in 2004 are considered as one of the most coveted MBA programs in Bangalore. "From 2004, we are known for delivering high quality fresh talent to the industry, not only to the technology side but also to the administration departments," says, Dr. Harish Babu, HoD – MBA, NMIT. Starting with an intake of 40 students in 2004, the NMIT's MBA program has now matured into a well-respected and well-received program with an approved intake of 120 students.
Providing an Extra-Edge
"When I started my MBA program, I wanted to leave the course, thinking that this is not my cup of tea. Fortunately, I did not do that, because my professors made things easy for me," remembers Chetana. Today, NMIT'S MBA program stands out amidst other MBA programs in quality of faculty, learning environment, academic life, infrastructure and placements. What clearly distinguishes NMIT's program from others is the quality and diligence of faculty and administration in enhancing the learning experience of students. "We are fortunate to have a very good faculty pool, with mixture of high academic qualifications and industry experience," claims Dr. Harish Babu.
Concreting the words of her HOD, Chetana, who has experienced the real support of this faculty pool shares, "It is was my professor, Ashwat Reddy, who put all his efforts to give an add-on courses on Six Sigma and made us understand the importance of taking an advantage of such programs over our regular curriculum." The impact of this add-on course on Six-Sigma was substantial in Chetana's life. When she attended the interview of Amazon, she had to encounter many questions about the Six-Sigma and she could crack every question brilliantly, as she holds the Yellow Belt Certification in Six-Sigma. Apart from Six Sigma, the institute provides many such short-term courses for the students, which are helpful for the students to grab an extra-edge over the other candidates while facing the big interviews. The result of this effort is the golden mark of achieving close to 100 percent placement for NMIT's MBA program.
It is true that, in this era, where everyone give importance only for placements, by highlighting the achievements of placement alone any institute can grab the attention of future students and their parents. However, NMIT surprises its audience in this phase. "Here (in NMIT), we give more preference to academics than anything else. If you do that, everything else will follow," says Dr. Harish Babu, who has always been confident of his fellow colleagues in delivering high quality teaching to the students.
"We had a subject in our second year, which has been considered as one of the toughest in the entire course and many students failed in that for the first time. However, our HoD, Dr. Harish Babu taught us that subject in his own way, which was magical and it ended up giving us an excellent result," says Chetana, who considers the faculty as the biggest strength of NMIT. While professors like Dr. Harish Babu, Dr. Jayasmita Rath, Dr. Senthil Kumar, Aswath Reddy, Kiran Kumar and many more like them on the board, NMIT is one unique campus, which is mesmerizing in its own way.
All-Rounder Faculties
Apart from regular classroom teaching and continuous evaluation of students, faculty members of NMIT are actively engaged in a wide-spectrum of activities ranging from students' mentoring to conducting FDPs and pursuing research with focused goals. These include, administrative tasks at the Departmental, Institutional and University levels, guiding Project Works, advising students in the conduct of extra-curricular and co-curricular activities, being in touch with the industry, communicating with the alumni, attending conferences, workshops, seminars, MDPs, FDPs and more. The management also conducts In-house training programs for faculty and "Research Colloquium Series" regularly to enhance analytical skills of faculty and research scholars.
