Infrastructure at a look
In 1997, the SNS Group of Industries set up the SNS Charitable Trust after they noticed an overflowing demand in the field of education. To cater this need the SNS Charitable Trust started a school, two engineering institutions, Arts and Science College and a college of education. The Group of Institutions currently provides 10,000 students an opportunity to achieve their dreams through education. Out of these five institutions, three of them have been accredited by NAAC with 'A' Grade and two of them have gained the Autonomous status.
In the year 2002, the students who dreamt of becoming engineers could do so with the establishment of SNS College of Technology in that year. The institution is one among 7 autonomous institutions in Coimbatore and has been accredited with 'A' Grade by NAAC. As there was sharp increase in the demand of engineering seats in Coimbatore, the trust decided to setup the SNS Engineering College in 2007 which is affiliated to Anna University.
Curriculum Ahead
As SNS College of Technology has gained Autonomy, the management has ensured that each department is attached to one or more industries. Experts from these industries are asked to glance through the syllabi and make any changes necessary. The reason to do so is to reduce the gap between what is taught in class and what goes on in the industries. The experts also train the faculty members in any specialized change of topics. The institute works on a trained trainer model with the industry experts and therefore the faculty members gain the required knowledge and skills to teach the students from the expertise. The management has ensured that for both the campuses at least one or two guest lecturers per subject are conducted in a semester.
A rich blend of resources
The SNS College of Technology and the SNS College of Engineering share a twin campus which is built on 23 acres of land. Both the engineering institutes share the student activity center which provides a range of facilities such as a swimming pool, music theatre and separate well equipped gyms for boys and girls. An Entertainment Complex has been setup where students can play bowling and billiards. The institutions also share a playground where students can play a variety of games.
However, each department in both the institutions has access to their own research labs which helps the faculty members and students advance their interests in the field. The cloud lab, mobile apps lab, power systems labs are a few examples of the labs. However, students from both the institutions have access to the labs.
Both the institutions have separate libraries. As the SNS College of Technology is Autonomous, the institute has acquired about 40,000 volumes of books as they keep updating their curriculum. While the autonomous status has given a boost to SNS College of Technology, the management has ensured that the SNS College of Engineering has sufficient books in the library which is about 12,000 at this moment. While the volumes of books vary the management has ensured that both the institutions have memberships to IEEE, DELNET INFOTRAC and access to the EBSCO database.
Corporate-Institution connect
In order to increase the quality of engineers graduating from the institute and cover the gap between the institutions and industries, the management of both the institutions has started an Industry Institute Partnership Cell. The Cells comprise of members who are academicians and have excellent relations with industry experts and invite them to give guest lectures and conduct workshops and seminars whenever they are free.
With more than 85 MoUs signed with these industry experts and their companies, the institute utilizes the opportunities to take the students on industry visits. The industry experts also guide the students through the implant training and guide them with their projects. Many students who do their projects with the companies get converted into employees.
Credible Faculty
The 500 faculty members at the two engineering institutions possess rich experience in teaching. Despite possessing a lot of experience, the faculty members continue learning and also receive training from various industry experts. While 42 faculty members have received their Ph.Ds, more than 110 faculty members are currently pursuing their Ph.Ds. The faculty members who are dedicated to doing research have received about Rs. 50 lakh of research grants. The unique aspect of the faculty members at SNS College of Technology and College of Engineering is that they have produced more than 20 Ph.Ds with their guidance.
Newly joined faculty members who are hired have to undergo a weekly training process. They are trained on how to approach the subject, how to handle the students, how to get hold of a student's interest and how to convert the interests into subject based learning. They also focus on outcome based education. The institute ensures students do projects and mini projects and also provide the necessary help required to take part in the contests held around the city, state and country. Faculty members also encourage students to take part in classroom discussions by utilizing a more interactive based teaching methodology.
Fitting students to corporate
The Institution have in house training cell in order to train young graduates. The trainers are being trained buy a chief trainer from Infosys. This Programme is mainly carried over in order to bridge the gap between the Institution and the Industry

Beyond Academics
While ensuring to bring out the best quality of engineers, the institutions also make certain that the students receive a holistic development. As the management understands that students have a variety of talents such as sports, arts, music, dance and others, they have built various facilities such as a dance studio, music studio and gym facilities. All these facilities are provided to the students by the management through a student run club called ACT ON DREAM club. The club is run by students and is divided into five groups for various purposes such as Academics, Placements, Extra Curricular and Co-curricular and youth empowerment based on youth parliament concepts. The youth parliament consists of elected members who bridge the gap between the students, the management and staff. For this very purpose, the management has kept all Saturdays as open Saturdays. There are about 40 clubs which are part of the ACT ON DREAM club.
