Engineering is not just about the pure technical education and in the present world there is no space for such engineers as the real talent lies in the raising of an entrepreneurial culture. Students with entrepreneurial training prove to be effective team members and managers with innovative thoughts. In 2008, when Lakshmi kanthammal Educational Trust laid the foundation for RMK College of Engineering and Technology (RMKCET), the institute aimed at transforming mere learners to achievers in the global level and they never knew that their idea of transformation would become the utmost need in future.

The need for entrepreneurship education is well recognized and students are taught about the required knowledge, tools, and attitudes to identify opportunities. The college established an Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) in the year 2014 and has been actively conducting programs in entrepreneurship with concerted initiatives to promote entrepreneurship among the students. "We motivate our students to take part in entrepreneurship programs to gain insights into market needs," says Dr. T Rengaraja, Principal of RMKCET. The cell organizes various programs to improve technical, communication and personality development of students. Through the EDC, students are able to find new opportunities and they turn into be job creators rather than job seekers.

Located in Puduvoyal in Thiruvallur district, Tamil Nadu, the college started its journey with Four departments namely Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Information Technology. Then Mechanical Engineering department was started in 2010. From the time of establishment, the students of RMKCET have been successful in meeting the expectations of the recruiters by exhibiting the skill sets that will prove them to be an asset for the organizations. "We train students according to their interests and the counseling is provided based on the industrial trends," adds Dr. T Rengaraja. The institute has established various centers to bridge the gap between industries and academics. Digital Enterprise COE develops programming skills and mobile app development skills of students and at the same time the Front End Technologies COE develops User Interface Design skills of students that match the industry expectations. PLM COE, Telecom COE and Factory Automation COE also work with the intention to improve the employability in factory automation and telecom skills fields accordingly.

"We train our students to be professionally competent and along with it, we motivate them with the required soft skills like laudable leadership, good teamwork, creativity, negotiating skill and communication," says Dr T Rengaraja. The training and placement service operates year round to facilitate contacts between companies and graduates. Students are appraised of the placement procedures and are assisted in preparing applications, resumes and mock interviews.

Dr. T Rengaraja concludes, "We provide our students a global quality interactive technical education to cater to the needs of the industries that would in turn, benefit the society."
