Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB) owes its origin to a "Social Contract" between the Government of Odisha and the Odisha Jesuit Society in 1987. Acknowledged internationally as a world-class business school, XIMB provides quality management programs and develops futuristic managers with strong ethics and values. The institute has established an identity of its own, which not only imparts management education but also implements socio-economic development projects in collaboration with international agencies and the Government. Xavier University Bhubaneswar (XUB) inherits the rich legacy of 30-year-old XIMB and stands tall in its mission of inspiring future generations of students aspiring for excellent quality higher education. The Management of the Institute is in the hands of a Board of Governors, consisting of representatives of the Jesuit Society, Government of India, Government of Odisha, and eminent industrialists and educationists. The key intellectual resource of XUB consists of XIMB, which has the distinction of consistently being rated on the criteria of intellectual capital amongst top Business Schools in the country. Faculty and Research Scholars have published their papers in reputed scientific journals and have authored monographs, books published by national and international publishers.

The institute's focus has always been to recruit high quality people and enable them to perform at their best. The admission process for the XIMB constitutes of various arduous steps, which an aspirant has to undergo before the final selection. The applicants have to appear for either the XAT (XLRI Admission Test) or CAT (Common Admission Test).The students with exceptional performance in all the sections are short-listed for subsequent rounds comprising of Group Discussion followed by a Personal Interview. Final selection is made based on the performance in the Written Test, Group Discussion, and Personal Interview along with Past Academic Performance and relevant Work Experience.

The selected students are mostly from the top graduation colleges and universities of India and have very high credentials. To bestow the students with high quality training during the course of the program, the University has a blend of academicians, researchers, professionals, administrators, consultants and managers. The permanent faculty comprises of experienced connoisseurs from the various streams of management, with many of them having industrial and corporate experience.

Presently, XUB has set up other Schools of higher learning, such as Xavier Institute of Management (XIMB), Xavier School of Human Resource Management (XaHR), Xavier School of Rural Management (XSRM), Xavier School of Sustainability (XSOS), Xavier School of Commerce (XSOC), and Xavier School of Communications (XCOMM). The flagship programmes of the Xavier University - the two year Master in Business Management and the two years Masters in Human Resources Management, provide a curriculum, which borrows best of both the conventional and contemporary industry visions. The University also offers MBA in Rural Management (MBA-RM), MBA in Sustainability Management (MBA-SM), MBA in Global Management, one year Full-Time Program for Working Executives (EMBA - BM),and Management Development Programs, Post-Graduate Certificate Program in Business Management (PGCBM) and Doctoral level Programs in Management and (Ph.D.).

XIMB has long championed the cause of management education with an international outlook. Over the years, the Institute has consciously worked towards creating a unique learning experience to expose its student community to the diversity in culture and add to the peer learning experience. The multi-cultural learning environment helps create open-minded, culturally sensitive managers who could feel at home anywhere in the world. The university has a dedicated International Relations Center (IRC), which acts as an interface with the world abroad.
