NMC Asks Medical Colleges to Upload Course Fees and Stipend Details

  • NMC directs all medical colleges to publish course-wise fees and stipend details to ensure transparency.
  • Regulations mandate stipend payments for MBBS interns, JRs, and SRs under CRMI and PGMER norms.
  • Non-compliance may lead to penalties, show-cause notices, or suspension of admissions.

The National Medical Commission has instructed all medical colleges to reveal the fee structures for each course and the stipend payment details. The measure has been implemented to guarantee transparency and safeguard students against concealed or unreasonable fee demands.

The notice issued by the NMC read, “In pursuance of ensuring transparency and protecting students from hidden or arbitrary fee demands, as well as addressing concerns regarding non-payment of stipends, the NMC has taken various measures in line with existing regulations and judicial mandates.”

Moreover, focus is directed towards the subsequent NMC regulations that require stipend payments for interns: Clause 3, Schedule IV of the Compulsory Rotatory Medical Internship (CRMI) Regulations, 2021; Regulation 13 of the Post Graduate Medical Education Regulations (PGMER), 2000; Regulation 5.4 of the PGMER, 2023. These regulations mandate that stipends be paid to interns as established by the relevant authority for the respective institution or university involved.

Furthermore, to ensure consistent disclosure and oversight, the NMC has established a Google Form link where institutions are required to submit the entire course-wise fee structure along with information about stipend payment to MBBS Interns/ JR/ SR, etc.

Numerous medical colleges/institutions are also posting the fee structure and stipend information on the intra MCC portal; however, this information is not exhaustive.

Non-compliance with the above requirements will result in regulatory measures, including the issuance of a show-cause notice, enforcement of financial penalties, revocation of course recognition, suspension of admissions, and other actions.
