DU Sets Erasmus Exchange Rules for Students and Faculty

Delhi University outlines Erasmus mobility eligibility and selection rules for students, PhD scholars, and faculty and Group A staff, including academic thresholds, research assessment, interview weightage and experience requirements.

The University Of Delhi (DU) has outlined eligibility criteria and selection procedures for students, PhD scholars, teaching faculty and non-teaching staff seeking international mobility opportunities under its Erasmus agreements with foreign higher education institutions. The notification, issued on October 22, 2026, establishes separate selection frameworks depending on whether an agreement is managed by an individual department or the university’s Office of International Relations.

The guidelines aim to provide a structured process for selecting candidates for academic exchanges, research collaboration and staff mobility. Applicants must meet the prescribed academic, attendance, language proficiency and documentation requirements before their applications can be considered.

Students registered with Delhi University can apply for advertised short-term or long-term mobility programmes. Applicants must have passed all papers in completed semesters without any essential repeat (ER) and maintain a minimum attendance of 66.67%. The prescribed minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) is 7.5 for candidates in the Unreserved, OBC and EWS categories and 6.5 for SC and ST candidates.

Applicants must also demonstrate the required language proficiency, hold a valid passport with at least two years of remaining validity and not have previously participated in the mobility programme. Applications must be complete, forwarded by the head of the institution and submitted within the specified deadline.

For students other than PhD scholars, academic performance carries 50% weightage in selection, while the interview accounts for 30%. The statement of purpose, faculty recommendation, departmental contributions and attendance each carry 5% weightage.

PhD applicants must complete their coursework, meet the language requirements and submit a recommendation from their university supervisor. They must also secure an acceptance letter from a prospective supervisor at the host institution who is willing to guide their research and has expertise in the relevant field.

The selection process assigns 40% weightage to the research proposal, 30% to the interview, 20% to alignment between the host supervisor’s expertise and the candidate’s research area, and 10% to UGC or CSIR NET/JRF qualifications. Candidates with research papers published in Scopus-indexed journals receive preference.

Full-time faculty members must have at least five years of teaching experience at Delhi University and meet the programme’s academic and language requirements. They must not have participated in mobility under the programme during the preceding five years.

For non-teaching staff, applications are restricted to Group A officers with at least five years of university experience. Applicants need a recommendation from their department or section head, and the proposed training must align with their job responsibilities. Similar mobility participation during the preceding five years is not permitted.

Departments coordinating Erasmus agreements will invite and screen applications, while programmes managed directly by the Office of International Relations will be publicised through the university’s departments, colleges and website. Selection committees will assess applicants according to the relevant category-specific criteria.

Candidates should consult the official notification and the University of Delhi Office of International Relations website for programme announcements, application deadlines and further instructions. The notification establishes the selection framework; applicants should check individual mobility calls for available opportunities and specific requirements.
