IIIT Hyderabad Opens MSIT Admissions for January 2027

IIIT Hyderabad opens applications for its January 2027 MSIT programme, combining AI, computing, applied research and venture-building. The first application deadline is November 7, 2026.
The International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIIT Hyderabad) has opened applications for the January 2027 intake of its revamped Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) programme. The four-semester, full-time residential programme combines computer science fundamentals, artificial intelligence (AI), applied research and entrepreneurship to prepare graduates for technology-focused careers.
Developed by the Consortium of Institutions of Higher Learning (CIHL) in partnership with IIIT Hyderabad’s Centre for Educational Technology and Learning Sciences, the programme emphasises practical learning, research projects, mentorship and venture-building. The programme is open to graduates with 16 years of formal education who are willing to work with computer science, AI and mathematics. Final-year students awaiting their results can also apply, subject to the admission requirements.
Candidates can qualify for the aptitude assessment through valid Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) scores, or by taking the MSIT Postgraduate Entrance Examination (MSIT PGEE). Shortlisted applicants will undergo interviews or individual academic discussions as part of the selection process.
The programme begins with foundational subjects, including algorithms and data structures, computer systems and learning with AI tools. In the second semester, students work with faculty members and mentors at IIIT Hyderabad’s research centres to develop and deploy applied AI systems.
The third semester focuses on venture-building, with students working in teams to develop products and business plans addressing real-world challenges. Teams will have opportunities to present their ideas to early-stage venture capitalists. During the final semester, students whose ventures secure funding can work towards launching their startups, while other students undertake a full-time industry cooperative placement.
The January 2027 admission process includes two application cycles. The deadline for the first cycle is November 7, 2026, with the entrance examination scheduled for November 11. The second cycle closes on December 7, 2026, and its examination takes place on December 11. The final admission list is scheduled for December 20, 2026, and the programme begins on January 2, 2027.
