With a population of more than 630 million, 7000 higher education institutions where around 12 million students study, Southeast Asia has become a vibrant and fast growing region in the world. Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam are the countries forming the southeastern part of Asia that aim to overcome higher education challenges, give every learner access to higher education and in the process diversify the education system. Apart from Thailand, all the other countries have a colonial history and so their education systems are inclined towards colonial education structure. At present, the Southeast Asian region's higher education systems are getting more international rendezvous.
