Overview
The World Travel & Tourism Council calculated that tourism generated Rs.6.4 trillion i.e. 6.6 percent of India's GDP in 2012. It supported 39.5 million jobs, 7.7 percent of its total employment. The sector is predicted to grow at an average annual rate of 7.9 percent from 2013 to 2023. This gives India the third rank among countries with the fastest growing tourism industries over the next decade. To support this growth rate, educational institutes have an added responsibility to play their role in providing trained professionals to take up their places in the industry. However, with new management institutes blooming up across the country, a dilemma about the quality of education arises for both students who want to pursue a career in this industry and organizations who are looking for top class professionals.
