AICTE, DST Launch MTech in Quantum Tech Under National Mission

  • AICTE and DST introduce the MTech program to strengthen India’s quantum mission.

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), collaborating with the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, has initiated an MTech program in Quantum Technologies as part of the National Quantum Mission.

Created by specialists, the MTech in Quantum Technologies program combines theoretical principles with practical training, applied research, and solutions to real-world challenges.

The program mainly focusing on quantum computing, communication, and sensing, the initiative aims to cultivate innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs, and future leaders in technology for the swiftly evolving global quantum landscape.

AICTE and DST have urged universities and technical institutions throughout India to embrace and execute the programme, enhancing capacity building and establishing a robust flow of skilled professionals to propel the country’s quantum-powered future.

Addressing the event, Prof. T.G. Sitharam, Chairman, AICTE, said, “Quantum technology will redefine computing, communication, and sensing. Through this curriculum, we aim to nurture a skilled workforce that can drive innovation and fulfill the goals of the National Quantum Mission.”

Emphasizing India's significant educational capabilities, Prof. A.K. Sood, PSA to GoI, stated, “This curriculum, spanning all quantum verticals, is a vital step in making quantum technology a viable career path for students. With its modular and adaptable design, the program ensures inclusivity and excellence across diverse institutions.”

The launch event was attended by Prof. A.K. Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India; Dr. Abhay Karandikar, Secretary, DST; Prof. T.G. Sitharam, Chairman, AICTE; Dr. Ajai Chowdhry, Co-Founder of HCL Technologies; and Prof. Shyama Rath, Member Secretary, AICTE, as well as senior officials from DST and AICTE
