GATE 2027 Registration Opens in August, Exam in February

Synopsis: IIT Madras is expected to begin GATE 2027 registrations in August through the GOAPS portal. The examination is likely to be held in February 2027 for admissions to postgraduate programmes and PSU recruitment.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras is expected to commence the registration process for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 in August 2026 through the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS). Although the official notification is yet to be released, the registration timeline is anticipated to follow the established schedule adopted in previous years.
GATE is one of India's premier national-level entrance examinations for admission to postgraduate programmes such as MTech, ME, MSc, and PhD at IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other participating institutions. In addition to higher education admissions, GATE scores are also accepted by several Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) for recruitment into technical and engineering positions, making the examination highly significant for engineering graduates and science students.
According to the expected schedule, the official information brochure and examination website are likely to be released in late July or early August 2026, followed by the opening of the GOAPS registration portal in August. Candidates will probably be able to submit applications without a late fee until September, while an extended registration window with a late fee is expected to remain available in October.

The GATE 2027 examination is tentatively scheduled to be conducted on February 6, 7, 13, and 14, 2027, in multiple sessions across various examination centres in the country. Admit cards are expected to be released in January 2027, while the results are likely to be announced in March 2027. The final examination schedule will be confirmed through the official notification issued by IIT Madras.
Candidates who have completed or are currently pursuing the third year or higher of a bachelor's degree in engineering, technology, science, architecture, commerce, or arts will be eligible to apply, subject to the detailed eligibility criteria mentioned in the official information brochure. Applicants will be required to complete the online registration process by providing personal and academic details, uploading the necessary documents, and paying the prescribed application fee through the GOAPS portal.
The examination will continue to be conducted as a computer-based test featuring Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Multiple Select Questions (MSQs), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions across multiple subject papers. GATE scores remain valid for three years for admissions and are widely recognised by higher education institutions and recruiting organisations across India.
Aspirants are advised to regularly monitor the official GATE website for the release of the notification, application schedule, eligibility guidelines, syllabus, and examination pattern. Early registration and timely preparation will enable candidates to complete the application process smoothly and maximise their readiness for one of India's most competitive postgraduate entrance examinations.
