The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur has reported the first phase of their 2023–2024 recruitment is going extremely well, with 1,501 job opportunities for graduating students. Many major corporations are recruiting engineers, scientists and tech workers for jobs in information technology, engineering, analytics, consulting and finance, but also manufacturing industries.
Additionally, 15 international job opportunities have been offered to IIT Kharagpur students from foreign companies and 457 students were offered pre-placement positions (PPO) by various companies prior to the normal recruitment dates.
A major high point in this year's placement session was the highest cost-to-company package of ₹2.44 crore, reflecting the premium opportunities available for top performers.

The addition of overseas placement offers emphasized the fact that IIT Kharagpur is sought after around the world as well.
Speaking on the subject, Prof. Sanjay Gupta, Chairperson, Career Development Centre, IIT Kharagpur, said, "The fact that we've had such outstanding results is a testament to the quality of the academic ecosystem and relationships we have with the industry." Both of these factors, he added, become even more important when considered in the context of the overall job market.
Phase -I having concluded on a successful note, the placement process at IIT Kharagpur has already begun Phase-II from January 16, 2026, in a bid to carry forward this momentum by increasing the number of companies visiting the institution.
