IIT Ropar Launches M.Tech in Defence Technology

The Indian Institute of Technology Ropar has entered into a Memorandum of Agreement with the Indian Army's Armoured Corps Centre School to launch a specialized MTech in Defence Technology programme.

The Indian Institute of Technology Ropar becomes the first Indian Institute of Technology to establish this degree programme which was developed in partnership with the Army for active duty Army officers.

The curriculum of the program has been developed through collaboration between IIT Ropar and ACC&S to teach engineering principles and military defence systems and practical technological solutions which solve real-world problems.

The program prioritizes practical education and scientific inquiry while its classes teach armored vehicle systems and advanced weapon systems and battlefield needs engineering.

The officers will obtain an M.Tech degree from IIT Ropar after completing all program requirements which will develop their technical skills and leadership capabilities in defence technology.

The MoA establishes a framework for joint research and development (R&D) activities that will continue between the institute and Indian Army during their research partnership. The defense technology development program will establish innovative solutions through its research activities which will explore advanced materials engineering and armored vehicle systems and military-specific emerging technologies.

The partnership aims to enhance indigenous technology development through the combination of IIT Ropar academic capabilities and Indian Army operational requirements which will help achieve Atmanirbhar Bharat defense sector objectives.

The programme establishes new standards for academic research and military cooperation in India while proving that defence personnel should receive specialist technical training to meet their future defence and national security responsibilities.

The project aims to develop a group of professionals who will master artificial intelligence and systems engineering and defence technology to strengthen the countries advanced defence capabilities.
