According to a research conducted at the national level, educational attainment among females is much lower than males. Similarly, minority groups like Muslims have lower levels of education when compared to others. To combat these problems Maharashtra College of Arts, Science and Commerce was established in the year 1968 with a vision to bring higher education to the doorsteps of the economically underprivileged students, especially belonging to the Muslim Minority, emphasizing on their all-round development. The institute’s aim is clearly showcased in the total number of students out of which 70 per cent are female students from the minority communities.

Other than just providing quality education, Maharashtra College of Arts, Science and Commerce work with a much deeper vision to provide opportunities for higher education especially to girls from the Muslim community within their locality and develop moral and intellectual outlook among students and inculcate principles of unity and national integration. Dealing mostly with first-generation learners, the institute takes extra effort and care to turn those students to exceptional individuals who are equipped with the right set of skills and mentality needed to thrive in this modern era.

Ensuring Quality Education
The pass percentage of Maharashtra College of Arts, Science and Commerce has always been above the pass percentage of the University in all faculties and the quality of the education provided by the institute is further highlighted by the hat-trick of Gold Medals won by their students at the University of Mumbai in 2016 for Urdu, 2017 for English and 2018 for Urdu. The college offers a multitude of courses in Arts, Science and Commerce and arts students graduate with specialization in the subjects of English Literature, Economics, Sociology, Arabic and Islamic Studies, Urdu Literature, Hindi Literature, Political Science, and History. Students from Science faculty gain specialization in Chemistry, Physics, Zoology, Botany, Mathematics, Computer Science, and Information Technology and
in the Commerce segment apart from Bcom, students can acquire graduation in Management Studies also. Post Graduate Courses in the subject of Botany, Information Technology and Commerce are also offered by the institute. Other than that the institute is also a research Centre in Commerce, Urdu and Botany leading to PhD.

The higher education institute is also a firm believer in sustainable development and has been taking various environment-friendly initiatives to reduce their carbon foot-print. “We as an elite higher education institute are committed to developing environmental consciousness. The college has the largest capacity rooftop solar plant unit installed in South Mumbai with annual energy generation of 1, 05,000 units and thereby saving 52.5 tones in carbon footprint. We have also implemented water conservation in the college and as a result of that from the last three months onwards we have been able to reduce water consumption by 50%. We want to impart the same philosophy of growing together into our students and by making them aware about the importance of this philosophy we are hopeful that we can bring at least a small change with our different campaigns and initiatives”, avers Dr. Sirajuddin Husainmiya Chougle, Principal, Maharashtra College of Arts, Science and Commerce.

Giving Importance to the Students' Holistic Development
Maharashtra College of Arts, Science and Commerce encourage talent of the students by giving its full support for their overall development and the students participate in various extra-curricular activities. The institute’s IT and CS department have started to participate and win in Hackathon and Game Programming at both the inter-university and state level. They have gone a step ahead and have worked as a resource person for the State level Game Programming workshop also. The institute has also a full-fledged and active NCC girls unit that is further helping their students to get added exposure to the real world scenarios making them mentally tough and morally straight.

Science and Commerce fully acknowledges the importance of having expert faculties and top-notch infrastructure to impart quality education in the current scenario and College organizes activities throughout the year to supplement curricular teachings. Students are given opportunities to participate in elocutions, debates, seminars, workshops, quiz and essay competitions and science exhibitions at the intercollegiate level. The faculty members of the college participate in various orientation courses, refresher Courses and other short-term courses on a regular basis for updating their knowledge. They also attend workshops, present papers in seminars and conferences, publish articles in research journals and undertake research projects. The institute provides necessary infrastructure like library, research journals, laboratories, equipments, and well-equipped computer labs with internet facilities for the teachers and students and Maharashtra College of Arts, Science and Commerce can brag about having a large number of computers to cater the demands of the curriculum, administration, and also as teaching and learning aids. The College has collaborations with corporate organizations like Gobizlab for mentoring their students in the Maharashtra College Technology Centre, and Heremaps, Microsoft ATS, Infotech Private Limited provides opportunities for skill development and hands-on training to the students.

For the future, Maharashtra College of Arts, Science and Commerce is planning to start various Ad-On Courses which help increase the employability of their students such as Certificate Course in Direct Taxation, GST, Tally, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), and Certification Course in Spoken Tutorial by IIT-B. Combining their operational philosophy with their effective students’ scholarship programs, Maharashtra College of Arts, Science and Commerce are fully committed to the cause of offering first-rate higher education to each and everyone and thereby ensuring the growth of the country.
