This year during the month of May, the country witnessed a sudden outbreak of a deadly disease called "Nipah virus" in the state of Kerela, where approximately seventeen people succumbed in front of the same virus. Recently, the state Government felicitated doctors, paramedical teams, support staff and volunteers who fought relentlessly against the spread of this virus in the districts of Kerela. Among the receiver of awards, there was also the husband of Late Lini Puthussery, the ‘hero' nurse who selflessly kept on treating the patients without thinking of her own health and eventually died after contracting the virus. Similarly, there are numerous other unsung heroes in the field of nursing who stood true to their profession and never backed out to serve the country in the most crucial situations. But there are only handfuls of professionals left in this field today who are such dedicated.

Recognizing the dire need of producing a bracket of paramedical and nursing staff, that is instilled with substantial professional ethics and skills, two renowned doctors,
Dr. Suresh Dwivedi and Dr. Najmi Rahman, who presently are serving as the Directors of the institute, laid the foundation of Tamanna School of Nursing under the banner of Tamanna Institute of Allied Health Sciences, which was established in the year 2002. One of the oldest nursing institutes in Uttar Pradesh and first in Allahabad, Tamanna offers a number of Paramedical & Nursing courses like Diploma in Physiotherapy, Diploma in Optometry, Diploma in General Nursing & Midwifery and Diploma in Auxiliary Nursing & Midwives. "We pride ourselves on being selected as one of the elite institutions of the state and recommended to JHAPIEGO skill partner of John Hopkins University, U.K. for providing technical support in further improvement of nursing education," proudly says Dr. Dwivedi.

"The students who aspire to obtain education at the Tamanna Institute are required to go through a written General knowledge test and an Oral Interview taken by expert doctors along with considering the Intermediate marks"

Moreover, the institute also has been selected by GE's Healthcare Institute to run their skill development courses like OT Technician and X-Ray Technician that is to be certified by Health Sector skill council of India under Skill Development Ministry of Government of India. "Although these courses are run at our institute, these are financed 100 percent by Tata Development Education Trust," pinpoints Dr. Rahman. The students who aspire to obtain education at the Tamanna Institute are required to go through a written General knowledge test and an Oral Interview taken by expert doctors along with considering the Intermediate marks. Dr. Dwivedi adds, "Even during recruiting the faculty members we double check different factors. Only the best brains are appointed for our students on the basis of an interview conducted by senior officials".

Filling the Gaps

Dr. Rahman shares, "In order to ensure that our students are trained in the most advanced way, we have incorporated all such facilities in our campus which will make them job-ready from day one". The facilities which can be utilized fully by the students throughout their academic
journey at Tamanna institute, includes well-equipped labs, library with thousands of books and Journals, hostel for girls and so on. The faculty members perform the teaching-learning process in digital classes, with an effort to enable the students' active participation. Special importance is given on personality development, soft skills enhancement and computer competencies of the students through organizing separate classes. For strengthening the practical experiences of the students, the institute has associated with Berkeley Healthcare System, which choose students from Tamanna institute annually and provide specialized training in their own fundamental nursing lab in New Delhi for 1 month followed by placing them in various hospitals in metro cities.

The institute also has upheld cordial relationship with numerous other Governments, Private Hospitals, Clinics and Diagnostic centres such as TB Sapru Hospital, Duffrin Hospital, and Colvin Hospital. "Torchbearers of Tamanna Institute, our past students are currently working in different parts of the world sitting in varied leadership positions," shares Dr. Dwivedi. On the other side, confirming the knowledge upgradation of the faculty members, the institute encourages them to devote a certain number of hours in the library coupled with organizing Continued Medical education (CME) & special classes for them by experts regularly.

"The junior teachers are motivated to attend the lecture of senior teachers & doctors so that they can learn and adopt the unique technique and methodology," mentions Dr. Rahman. By offering the perfect combination of clinical exposure and academic knowledge to the students, Tamanna Institute has become a favorite destination for primary recruiters such as Medanta Hospital, Max Hospital, Kailash Hospital, Jaipur Golden Hospital, to name a few. Having a backup of an extremely supportive alumni base who often visit the campus to assist their juniors, Tamanna Institute is passionately committed to save the lives of thousands of people and make a significant impact on the healthcare industry by positively intensifying the paramedical workforce of the country.
