From its humble beginnings, the University of Chichester has gone through various phases, starting out as a teach-er training college in 1840 and growing into a modern, forward-looking university. Today, the University has two campuses- one in the historic Roman city of Chichester and one in the popular seaside resort of Bognor Regis - and hosts around 5,500 students. The University's facilities are state-of-the-art, and expose students early on to the kind of technology they are likely to be encountering after graduation in the modern work-place, particularly in areas such as health, sport, computer games design, and computer science.
The university's vision revolves around the concept of `opportunity for all': the ethos that higher education should be accessible to anybody who can benefit from it and has the skills and aptitudes to do so, irrespective of age, ethnicity, handicap, or family background. As its motto - `Be Inspired. Be Original. Be You' suggests, the University wants to em-power students, regardless of their background, to become independent and sufficiently confident to express their ideas freely and fully. In line with this ethos of opportunity for all, the university offers a merit-based international scholarship: the Global Merit Scholarship.
A Close, Supportive Community
The University of Chichester is committed to providing an inclusive, close and supportive environment, where educators and students know each other, and in which every student is an individual, and every student is appreciated and supported. To safeguard this ethos, the university is committed to gradual growth, rather than the sudden, rapid expansion of its student numbers, which might lead some individuals to feel lost
