Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is a pioneering, international joint venture university that focuses on research-led learning that it inherited from the parent institutions, the University of Liverpool and Xi'an Jiaotong University. The university ranked 79 in the 2019 QS Rankings of Mainland China universities ahead of some of the oldest and most prestigious universities in China. The university received prioritization from the State Council of China in the national Project 211 and Project 985 that aimed at strengthening universities in China for creating

world-class institutions. Because of prioritization received, the university became a more prominent place to pursue higher education.
