WB Cabinet Approves 14,000+ Jobs, Women's Higher Edu Aid
West Bengal approves 14,454 government posts for recruitment within six to eight months and launches ₹50,000 financial assistance for unmarried women pursuing higher education under the Bhagini Nivedita Scheme.
The West Bengal government has approved recruitment to 14,454 government posts and introduced a new financial assistance scheme for unmarried women pursuing higher education. The decisions were announced by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari following a state Cabinet meeting.
According to the announcement, recruitment to the newly approved posts is expected to be completed within six to eight months. The Public Service Commission and the State Police Recruitment Board will undertake the examination and recruitment processes for the vacancies. The Chief Minister said appointment-related formalities for around 12,000 posts would begin on October 11.

The government said the recruitment drive is part of its broader commitment to creating one lakh government jobs in the state. The state’s 2026-27 Budget had earlier announced plans to fill one lakh vacant positions across departments, including large allocations for education and police recruitment.
Alongside the recruitment decision, the Cabinet approved the Bhagini Nivedita Scheme, which will provide ₹50,000 in financial assistance to eligible unmarried women pursuing higher education over a three-year period. The initiative is aimed at supporting women continuing their studies and reducing financial barriers to higher education.
The latest announcement adds to the state’s existing higher-education support measures. The government had also launched the Swami Vivekananda Merit Scholarship Scheme in September 2026 to support meritorious students pursuing higher education at premier institutions in India and abroad.
The Cabinet also approved increases in financial support for other groups. Monthly remuneration for Karmabandhus, who work as part-time support staff, has been raised from ₹5,000 to ₹8,000. In addition, the food allowance for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students staying in hostels has been increased from ₹1,800 to ₹3,300.
