With an increasing interest in aesthetics, people have become more particular about the designs and the layout of the living or working area leading to an increasing demand for interior designers. In order to create a good space in the interior designing market, students need to be aware of the latest trends. Garware Institute of Career Education and Development is a learning space, which updates students with the day-to-day trends in the interior designing market. Established in 1984, in its journey of over 32 years, GICED has taken utmost care to maintain the quality of education.

Skill development is one of the prime programs of the Nation today. Garware Institute of Career Education & Development realized this need in 1984 & started offering career-oriented skill based courses to students, even at under graduate level. "We offer courses to highly focused and academically brilliant students, as well as suitable courses to students who do not have a great academic record. We train them to carve a career in industrial sectors," says Prof Anil V Karnik, I/c Director, GICED.

The syllabus is set in such a way that the interior designing course not only equips the students with the latest design aspects but also gives them the basic knowledge about the different types of architectures. Hence, after the completion of diploma, the students are not only able to take up a career in interior designing but also in architecture. In addition to that, the institute has introduced programs in landscape design. Through this course, the institute aims at bringing people close to the nature. This is achieved year after year under the able expertise of Architect C.V. Apte who is the Course Co-ordinator of the Interior Design Programs.

A Pragmatic Curriculum

The institute revises its course content every three years as per the NAAC committee recommendations. GICED works in order to make the students learn the design and drawing aspects by using computer aided design methods. Successful completion of the three years UG and two years PG courses enable the students to become interior designers, landscape designers, set designers and so on. In all the aspects, the institute focuses on the career prospects and analysis of the segments with more openings.

At present, GICED provides full time undergraduate courses like computer application, interior design, retail management, paint application technology, travel and tourism, aviation, jewellery designing and sports management. Apart from that, they also provide post graduation courses including film making, information technology and so on. The part time UG course in foreign trade, tour management, customs clearance and freight forwarding and the PG courses are also considered as eye-catching attractions of GICED. "We ensure that students joining in our courses get the full benefit out of the training from our institute. The practical oriented training is well supported by the infrastructural facilities like computer labs with internet connectivity, a paint workshop equipped with required tools and instruments and a pollution control laboratory for conducting practical programs and workshops," explains Prof. Anil.

By focusing more on practical training rather than instilling theoretical knowledge, GICED provides numerous placement opportunities for its students. The institute prepares regular job listings, invites employers to visit the institute and organizes campus job interviews. "We provide student information to employers prior to the placement drives, which makes recruiters job easier. Our former students who are already into the industry and have their own companies also revisit the campus for providing training," adds Prof. Anil.

In collaboration with industry, the institute identifies the advance courses that will upgrade knowledge along with development of skill and potential of the personnel for a specific job. They also involve the employer's organizations and professional trainers in industry as well as academicians in designing the courses. "A team of highly dedicated professionals who are focused on practical teaching rather than the theoretical classes is the backbone our institute. They are well versed in their fields and practical oriented class makes each student ready for the industry," opines Prof. Anil, who considers teaching as the most important element for the training and he always relates his success in career with his guru.

As per the set mission of the management, GICED imparts employment-oriented education and as per the words of its founder, Padmabhushan Abasaheb Garware, the team is working for the reorientation of the education to create a right path of career.
