In 1991, Government of India notified JVBI as Deemed-to-be University under Section 3 of University Grants Commission Act, 1956. Unlike niche universities, the JVB University is an endeavor in the direction of putting into practice, promote and propagate the high ideals of Anekant, Ahimsa, Tolerance and Peaceful Co-existence for the well being of humanity. JVBI is the worlds First University for the advanced study of Jainology, Oriental Studies, Prakrit & Sanskrit , Philosophy and related subjects, Nonviolence and peace research, Science of Living, Preksha Meditation & Yoga, Education and Social work. Journey to become University
The base of the institution is the basic components of Jain Philosophy, which are Anekanta (non-absolutist outlook) and Ahimsa (Nonviolence) along with focuses on how to make the people more self-disciplined in their way of life by creating a holistic development of nonviolent personality embedded with Value Education. By perceiving the fast degeneration of moral, ethical and spiritual values creating social turmoil and human suffering, Acharya Tulsi wanted to address grave social problems through Value- based Education. With this great initiative, the challenge was undertaken by the institute to make pedagogy with the base of Jain Philosophies and Indian Culture to the common people and translation of volumes of manuscripts of Jain Philosophies from prakrit to Hindi, Sanskrit and English was commenced by Scholars and many Jain Monks and Nuns. JVBI has signed MoUs with many elite International Universities to achieve the goal of knowledge, wisdom, holistic development and excellence in academia.
Unique Programs
JVBI has a unique approach in providing innovative curricula for quality education offering a range of courses through its various departments for undergraduates, postgraduates, PhDs, D.Litt, Diplomas and Certificates. Begun with four core departments, JVBI has extended its programs by adding more departments, courses and a number of prominent scientific research works in the disciplines of Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences and Commerce. Keeping the ideals and philosophy of the institute in mind, JVBI has a constituent college specifically for women named Acharya Kalu Kanya Mahavidhyalaya providing regular undergraduate courses in arts and commerce integrating Women Studies focusing on women empowerment, gender, womens rights, equality, and Women Entrepreneurship through research, trainings and innovative teaching modules.
Apart from these benchmarks, the University runs Distance Education program approved by DEB and UGC, operated from the headquarters at Ladnun, at present, more than 7000 students have enrolled in the distance learning programs. JVBI has recently launched E-Learning program based on Cloud technology. JVBI has tied up with many industries for Vocational and Communication Skill training programs. However, the institute does not want to deviate from their core philosophies to commercialize the education and ensure to propagate the substantial education to build better humankind. JVBI facilitates need and merit based scholarships and stipends to make rural population access to higher education.
Social Commitment
The focus of Acharya Sri Tulsi, the pioneer of JVB University, was on the areas of rural development, women empowerment and women education. He was specifically serving for the low profile people who cannot have access to the metropolitan cities to have proper basic education. This was the motive for him to start Jain Vishva Bharti Institute in the land of Rajasthan, where the literacy rate is comparatively low. The city Ladnun, in the Nagaur District was almost a challenging location for the pioneers to begin their educational service to the society, as the literacy rate of the district was even more pathetic in the 90s. Either the village people did not have a good infrastructural access to main cities to get a good education or they did not have the mind set to send their children for a better education. The people from Jain Vishva Bharti organization, under the leadership of Acharya Sri Tulsi, committed their life and played a major role in empowering the education of people from rural areas of Rajasthan. The University has adopted few villages nearby and provide the basic education to children, women and train them in certain skills for their better living.
Volunteers of NCC and NSS organize many campaigns on Health, Hygiene, Environment and De-addiction. JVBI shall not only encourage education for women in the region, but emerge as a center of Excellence for women by contributing to the visibility of women issues, combining intellectual knowledge with socially relevant theories and creating a platform for enabling multi-disciplinary dialogue and collaborations with national and international women studies center.
