Kerala Opens Applications for 2025 Post Basic Diploma in Nursing
- Online applications open till Sept 8, 2025, for Post Basic Diploma in Specialty Nursing.
- Eligibility: GNM/BSc/Post Basic BSc Nursing with 50% marks and valid council registration.
- Admission via entrance exam and skill assessment; course duration is 12 months.
An online application is now open for enrollment in the Post Basic Diploma Courses in Specialty Nursing for the academic year 2025 in Kerala. The Nursing Colleges under the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Kerala, are providing Post Basic Diploma Courses in Specialty Nursing.
Admission to the courses is determined by merit, evaluated through scores on the entrance exam and skill assessment. Candidates chosen under the service quota will be determined solely by their eligibility and seniority as of the final date for submitting the application form.
In this context, the Government of Kerala has published a prospectus outlining the Courses, Institutions and Seats, Fees, eligibility requirements, Course Duration, Fee waivers and additional scholarships, etc.
Candidates must have completed the +2 or an equivalent exam with physics, chemistry, and biology as optional subjects. Candidates must have completed a foundational qualifying course, like the General Nursing and Midwifery Course/BSc Nursing Degree (Regular Course) / Post Basic BSc Nursing (Regular Course) from a recognized institution by the Indian Nursing Council and relevant State Nursing Councils, achieving at least 50% marks in total. Rounding the percentage of marks to the closest whole number is not allowed.
The applicant must have acquired registration from the Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council or any state nursing council if they have studied outside of Kerala. Chosen candidates must present their original registration certificate acquired from the Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council during admission.
Admission is only open to Indian citizens who are of Kerala origin. Individuals residing in Kerala for a minimum of 5 years will be regarded equally to those of Kerala origin solely for admission purposes.
The maximum age for General Merit applicants will be 45 years, while for Service candidates, it will be 49 years as of the notification date for applications.
Submissions for applications can be made online until September 8, 2025. The application fee is Rs 1000/- (Rs 500/- for SC / ST applicants) and can be paid online or at any Federal Bank branch using the challan generated online during the application process. However, the candidates must have met the eligibility criteria by the deadline for submitting the application.

The choice will rely on an admission exam and competency evaluation. The LBS Centre will inform about the date and time of the entrance examination based on the OMR sheet at the appropriate time. All applicants, including service candidates, must take the entrance exam. There will be a single exam lasting 90 minutes, featuring 100 objective multiple-choice questions, each worth 3 marks, totaling a maximum of 300 marks.
The test will be at the level of the Basic Nursing Programme and will include questions on all topics outlined in the syllabus of the Indian Nursing Council. Information about the test is provided in the prospectus. Every accurate answer will receive three points.
The Speciality Nursing Post Basic Diploma Courses last for 12 months. The initiative seeks to enhance the effectiveness of nursing officers in specialty departments while refreshing their knowledge and skills to deliver high-quality, cost-effective care to patients in specialized fields amidst today’s advancements in science and technology, specialization, and super specialization.
