  • NMC confirmed it won't reduce medical seats in Telangana but urged infrastructure upgrades.
  • Notices were issued to 26 colleges, prompting clarification meetings in Delhi.
  • State officials pledged improvements, with faculty hiring and construction underway.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) assured the Telangana government that it does not intend to cut medical seats in the state, but instructed state health officials to guarantee that all required facilities are available at government medical colleges.

With this assurance, activities at these institutions are anticipated to proceed without interruption.

This development follows NMC sending notices to 26 state government medical colleges, after which health officials, including Health Secretary Christina Z Chongthu and Director of Medical Education (DME) Dr V Narendra Kumar, held discussions with NMC representatives in Delhi.

Sources indicated that NMC expressed contentment with the clarifications given about issues related to faculty shortages and infrastructure problems. The authorities explained that the fast and concurrent creation of several medical colleges resulted in short-term shortages in staff and resources.
