Russia Adds 2,000 Medical Seats for Indian Students to Meet Growing Demand
Russia has added 2,000 more medical seats for Indian students in its medical institutions, bringing the total number of seats offered to Indian students to 10,000. The news comes as Russia continues to establish itself as one of the major destinations for Indian students looking for affordable and quality medical studies outside India.
The jump from 8,000 to 10,000 total seats coincides with the positive trend of Indian students studying medicine in Russia. According to Valery Khodzhaev, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Chennai, the increase is evidence of Russia's longstanding reputation for providing high-quality medical education.
According to Khodzhaev, "Russia has been the country of choice among Indian medical aspirants for more than 60 years now," during a recent discussion in Chennai. "With reasonable fee levels and internationally recognized degrees, thousands of Indian students continue to enrol each year."
Khodzhaev added that what makes Russia special is that it conforms to India's new National Medical Commission (NMC) criteria for foreign medical education. This means that diplomas earned from Russia will be accepted in India, which allows students some degree of comfort regarding their qualifications.
The Russian government is not only adding seats but also continuing its 100% scholarship scheme, 200 Indian students each year will spend time in Russia either on undergraduate, postgraduate, or specialist courses without having to pay any tuition fees. This additional measure attracts many students who prefer to study education abroad at an affordable cost.
To assist prospective students, the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Chennai will host an All-India Russian Education Fair on May 10 and May 11, followed by Tiruchirappalli, Salem, and Coimbatore.
The education fair will include universities such as Moscow State Regional University, Kazan State Medical University, and Volgograd State Medical University. While medical courses remain the attraction, the fair also showcases new paths of study in biotechnology, AI, and data science.
