Manish Sisodia inaugurates IIIT - Delhi's Summer Camp for School Students

Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister, Mr Manish Sisodia, inaugurated the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi’s (IIITD) Summer Camp for School students, here today. The month-long camp which includes academic sessions and fun activitiesis a one of its kind initiative, being organised by IIITD for the benefit of students of selected schools in the vicinity.

Inaugurating the camp, the Deputy Chief Minister said, “It’s a wonderful opportunity and you need to make the most of it.  It’s learning, not just for school students, but for students of IIITD as well. Both ought to benefit from the experience.” He encouraged students to ask questions, seek advice on career choices and personality development.

Lauding IIITD’s initiative, Mr Sisodia said other institutes and colleges should follow IIITD’s example of getting involved and paying back to the local community which has given land to set up the institute.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Pankaj Jalote, Director IIITD, said, “What students will learn at this summer camp, no school or text book can provide. The exposure the students are going to get here is going to be truly invaluable.” Teachers from the participating school were also present at the inaugural.

The camp has been conceived as a group activity, each group comprising 30 members. It has organized by a team of five IIITD coordinators and 30 volunteers, guided by IIITD staff members and a senior student coordinator.

There will be educational sessions on all weekdays from 9 AM to 1 PM. In addition to regular subjects like Mathematics, Computers, Science, General Knowledge and Communication, students at the camp will be taught soft skills such as handling problematic situations, social etiquettes, table manners, personal hygiene and cleanliness as part of personality development. There will also be fun activities such as Theatre, Dance, Music, Arts and Craft, plus a weekly movie screen with refreshments. 

The participating schools are Govt. Boys’ Senior Secondary School, Harkesh Nagar; Govt. Girls’ Senior Secondary School, Harkesh Nagar; Govt. Boys’ Senior Secondary School, Kalkaji; RPVV, Lajpat Nagar; Veer Savarkar Sarvodya Kanya Vidyalaya, No. 1, Kalkaji.
