IIT Madras offers free SWAYAM Plus AI courses for students, pros

IIT Madras has introduced five new online courses in Artificial Intelligence on the SWAYAM Plus platform. These AI courses are free of cost and provide an opportunity for learners of all academic backgrounds to learn AI.

Undergraduate, postgraduate or working professionals interested in registering on the SWAYAM Plus platform can register and apply to the AI courses offered by the IIT Madras on this initiative. The last date to apply is May 12.

SWAYAM Plus is an initiative of the Ministry of Education, operated by IIT Madras. SWAYAM Plus provides over 380 employment-oriented courses across sectors including engineering, IT, hospitality, and BFSI; many with IIT quality checks and aligned with national credits.

The five AI-based courses are: “AI in Physics” “AI in Chemistry” “AI in Accounting” “Cricket Analysis with AI” “AI/ML using Python.” Each course takes between 25 and 45 hours, uses real data and case studies, and emphasizes hands-on experience. No previous experience with AI or coding is required and therefore the programs are open to many. There are certificates available for a fee.

“AI in Physics” and “AI in Chemistry” address machine learning and neural networks applied to physical and chemical problems respectively. “AI in Accounting” integrates traditional commerce-related principles using AI automation. “AI in Cricket Analysis with AI” is a course that deals with analytics and data analysis using actual recording data from cricket. And “AI/ML using Python” teaches the basics of AI concepts, Python programming, statistics, and optimisation.

These programs are available to undergraduate students and postgraduate students from all types of fields, including arts, commerce, science, engineering, and interdisciplinary studies. Faculties from higher education institutions are also welcome to register. The only requirements for participants are digital literacy and a desire to learn.
