ASBEX has been promoted and guided by an eminent academician Dr. P. Kanniappan, who has more than four decades of experience and former Vice-Chancellor of Alagappa University, Karaikudi and B. S. Abdul Rahman University, Chennai. He has held several academic and administrative positions at Gandhigram Rural University, a Central Deemed University. He created the Rural Energy Center at GRI and has successfully executed more than 17 R&D Projects funded by UGC, MNES, TEDA, MBHM and DAE. He has created a Centre for Rural Development, Ramanujam Centre for Higher Mathematics and a Centre for Nano Science and Technology at Alagappa University. Dr. Kanniappan has received the Outstanding Young Person Award for the outstanding contribution to Mathematics widely recognized worldwide as "Kanniappan's Lemma".

Agni School of Business Excellence (ASBEX) was established by Agni Knowledge Foundation. The foundation promotes its objective of translating Former President APJ Abdul Kalam's dream of PURA (Providing Urban Amenities to Rural Areas) by providing education and other services to the community at large at an affordable and reasonable cost without any profit motive in its true sense.

ASBEX offers its students a Master in Business Administration (MBA) of the prestigious Anna University, Chennai with specializations in Marketing, Finance, Human Resource and Systems.The MBA course of ASBEX provides the students with important inputs- combined with practical knowledge to help them become successful in the corporate world.

ASBEX has built an IT lab with the latest systems, software and database packages along with 24 hours internet connection. To guide the students to communicate effectively and enhance their employability skills, a separate English language laboratory has also been set up and is attached to the main lab facility.
