Students in a college are supposed to avail education and look for jobs and accordingly institutes engaged in the same routine procedure of imparting education in young minds, what marks the uniqueness of SKP Engineering College and its students is that they have made life easier for the people in Tiruvannamalai, a town in Tamil Nadu who can enjoy a good night’s sleep. The students of SKP Engineering College who unlike attending the routine classroom lessons have applied in practice and introduced a safety app ‘Stay Safe,’ a GPS based android application that sends SOS messages to chosen numbers of family and friends during emergencies when you are traveling. This is not just one attempt of these students but there are many of these offering various facilities for people’s convenience in this region of the state.

The students, aka, the app developers released these mobile applications since last year under the ‘Mobile Application Center of Excellence’ and have obtained a number of apps such as Tiruvannamalai app, Students tutor App, Book socio App, Attendance App, Emergency Screensaver and

BT Messenger. While some of them are yet to be launched, the Tiruvannamalai app is said to be the prominent among those, helping tourist to move around the temple city. The Institute encourages and develops entrepreneurial skills among the students by conducting Entrepreneurship Awareness Camps in collaboration with National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board and promotes innovations by these students.

SKP is prominent in their number of MOUs and collaborations with various organizations and institutes fostering research and innovation under the Industry Institute Partnership Cell. These collaborations are intended to bring in research opportunities along with exposure to students and faculty members as well. Prominently, Tokyo Institute of Technology and New Jersey Institute of Technology have been signed in to foster collaborations between staff and students, to organize and perform joint research projects, academic seminars, guest lectures and to exchange scholarly materials, research reports and publication.

To further enhance research, SKP Group of Institutions has partnered with Wikimedia for Wikipedia research to encourage growth of Wikimedia projects. This program is an academic setting for educators and students around the world to contribute to Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects. Wikimedia India is to facilitate the setup of a Language Computing Lab at SKP Group of Institutions providing adequate learning opportunities for students and faculties in the technologies they work under this partnership and would cater to the specific issues that occur due to the lack of freely available computing tools for Indian languages other than English.

After 15 years, the institute stands proud securing 95 percent in placement record. Every year, SKP witnesses over 60 major organizations such as Amazon, iNautix, HCL and IBM recruiting students for highest salary of 5 Lakh per annum. Offering U.G, P.G and PhD in seven verticals of engineering, SKP Engineering College acquires student strength of 3600 w.r.t 281 faculty members.

Established in 1999, SKP College of Engineering aims to impart world class technical education producing industry ready engineers with competence and confidence. As the institute intends to build a reputation of international standards by cultivating good relationships among the faculty members, students and industrial partners, this cultivation holds a number of intertwined exchanges of knowledge and partnerships for acquiring better opportunities. Being set up in rural vicinity, SKP faced a lot of challenges during its establishment but has overcome with flying colors. To serve the main objectives of bringing in more opportunities, the institute was formed with the idea of facilitating every possible academic need of the students which is otherwise possible for institutes with an urban establishment.

Under the ever changing industrial scenario, the institute takes charge of producing a number of human resources trained in technical knowledge. By exposing them to the latest technical training through the existing well equipped seven laboratories, the institute is grooming tender minds into young professionals developing career through skill development. Setting up an innovation lab and increasing number of collaborations with national and international institutions and industries in near future, SKP Engineering College is all set to give a new face to its established reputation.
