Austria, India Deepen Educational Ties with STEM Focus

  • TU Wien, TU Graz, and TU Leoben open master’s programs for Indian students.
  • Programs span AI, robotics, green chemistry, sustainable tech, and biotechnology.
  • Students gain work placements, post-study visa extension, and reduced tuition fees.

Katharina Wieser, the Austrian Ambassador in India, together with Armstrong Pame, Joint Secretary of the Union Ministry of Education, revealed on Friday a new partnership between Austria's technical universities and VFS Education Services, intended to enhance Austria India education ties in education and broaden opportunities for student mobility.

The collaboration unites three renowned Austrian universities – TU Wien, TU Graz, and TU Leoben. The program targets engineering students from accredited institutions in India, especially those mentioned in the ANABIN database. As stated officially, qualified students will have the chance to enroll in Master’s programs at these institutions.

Students participating in this collaboration will gain from an extensive two-year Master’s program that combines in-depth theory with practical industry experience, featuring work placements as an element of the coursework.

Programs at an advanced level are available in fields such as metallurgy, biotechnology, circular engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence, robotics, resource efficiency, sustainable technology, green chemistry, environmental systems science, petroleum engineering, industrial data science, and software engineering.

TU Leoben provides specialized Bachelor's degrees in Geo-energy Engineering, Circular Engineering, and Responsible Consumption & Production (EURECA-PRO).

Students need to possess a BE/BTech/BSc (Hons) in a pertinent field from an ANABIN-recognized Indian university with at least a GPA of 2.5 according to the Austrian system (approximately 65-70 percent on the Indian grading scale) and show proficiency in the English language. Successful candidates will also qualify for a one-year extension of their post-study visa to acquire important international work experience.

VFS Education Services will oversee the admissions process for Indian students, providing comprehensive support that includes information and application handling, as well as pre-departure advice and post-arrival help.

Students may use the VFS Education Services portal (vfsedu.com) to complete the application form and upload required documents, such as their Bachelor’s degree certificate, English proficiency certificate, and identification. Documents can also be sent via email to austria@vfsedu.com.

The statement indicates that selection will rely on academic performance, English skills, individual evaluations, and document verification. Candidates who are shortlisted will be informed about the next steps. Applications are now accepted for the Summer and Winter 2026 sessions.

More than 300 Master's positions can be found at TU Wien (approximately 50), TU Graz (nearly 175), and TU Leoben (around 84), in addition to roughly 15 Bachelor's positions at TU Leoben.

Students will pay reduced tuition fees of €726.72 each semester, along with a €25 student union charge. Additional expenses, including travel, lodging, insurance, visa fees, and administrative costs, will be paid directly by the students.
