University of Toronto has made public its scholarship plan worth 100 million Canadian dollars  entirely for Indian students to further close the education partnership between Canada and India. This project will be able to grant 200 fully or partially financed awards to talented Indian students at the undergraduate, graduate (Masters and PhD), and professional degree levels over the next five years at the university.

The scholarships cover an extensive range of disciplines, for instance, engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence, data science, business, public policy, health sciences, environmental studies, and the humanities.  The size of the scholarship depends on the study level and the applicant's financial situation.

First, year students tuition fees may be subsidised up to CAD 100, 000 in total for a four, year course, while masters students could be awarded between CAD 50, 000 and CAD 75, 000. For PhD programmes, the scholarship usually covers full tuition along with a stipend of up to CAD 40, 000 per year to support living expenses.

Eligibility standards are to have outstanding academic results (minimum 85, 90% equivalent marks in the previous qualifications), excellent extracurricular achievements, leadership potential, and for some categories, need to have demonstrated financial need. Applicants must get admission to a full, time program at the University of Toronto and then submit a scholarship application separately through the university's portal.

The project forms part of Canada's overall plan to attract top world talents as it works to reopen international student inflows and expand them after recent changes in the immigration policy. Representatives of the university said that the scholarships will serve as a medium of support to diversity, will promote bilateral research collaborations, and will help the transfer of knowledge between India and Canada in the areas of clean energy, AI ethics, and sustainable development, which are the priority fields.

Indian students will also benefit from streamlined visa processing pathways for scholarship recipients, as announced by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada in coordination with the university. The first cohort of awards is expected to be granted for the Fall 2026 and Winter 2027 intakes.

Interested candidates should monitor the official University of Toronto admissions and scholarships website for the application timeline, detailed eligibility, and required documents. This major funding commitment positions the University of Toronto as one of the most attractive destinations for high-achieving Indian students seeking world-class education in North America.
