dMAT Exam Dates 2026-2027 for Indian Students

The first dMAT exam in India is scheduled for September 26, 2026, for selected students seeking Master’s admission in Germany. Registration closes September 15, with results and certificates scheduled for October 12.

Indian students planning to pursue selected Master’s programmes in Germany for the Summer Semester 2027 and later may need to take the newly introduced Digital Master Test (dMAT) as part of the APS documentation process. The first dMAT examination in India is scheduled for September 26, 2026, with registration closing on September 15.

The dMAT is being introduced as an additional academic aptitude assessment for selected Indian applicants. According to APS India, the requirement applies to candidates whose previous bachelor’s degree falls within Engineering, Commerce, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business or Management. Students applying for the Winter Semester 2026/27 are not covered by the new requirement.

The registration process opened on June 29, 2026, and is administered by the German Academic Exchange Service-affiliated Gesellschaft fur Akademische Studienvorbereitung und Testentwicklung (g.a.s.t.). The examination fee for Indian candidates is €150, payable directly through the g.a.s.t. registration system. Test-centre booking, payment, technical support and certificate issuance are also managed by g.a.s.t.

The September 26 examination will be conducted at selected licensed test centres in India. Locations currently include Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Kolkata, Mananthavady, Mumbai, New Delhi and Pune, with final availability displayed during registration. Candidates are advised to register early because test-centre seats are subject to availability.

The dMAT consists of a Core Module and a General Academic Module. The Core Module assesses cognitive and analytical abilities through Figure Sequences, Mathematical Equations and Latin Squares. The General Academic Module evaluates the application of these skills to academic problem-solving rather than testing memorised information. The examination takes about three and a half hours, including a 30-minute break.

Results and digital certificates for the first India test cycle are scheduled to be available on October 12, 2026. The certificate must be included with APS application documents and will be referenced in the APS certificate.

Students targeting German universities for Summer 2027 should therefore factor the dMAT into their APS and admission timelines. APS India has advised applicants to verify their degree and university recognition through the anabin database before registering for the examination.
